The DEIF PPU-3 is a state-of-the-art, microprocessor-based controller that combines generator management, protection, synchronization, and load sharing in a single, powerful unit. It is designed for demanding applications where reliability, flexibility, and precise control are essential.
The PPU-3 provides all necessary functions for controlling a genset in both island and parallel modes. It includes automatic start/stop sequencing, engine control (governor interface), voltage regulation (AVR interface), and breaker control. Built-in protection covers a wide range of electrical parameters: over/under voltage, over/under frequency, overcurrent, reverse power, over/under power, and more. All protection settings are fully programmable via the front panel or PC software. The unit also features advanced protection functions such as negative sequence, directional overcurrent, and synchrocheck.

One of the key strengths of the PPU-3 is its ability to synchronize a generator with a live bus automatically. Using true RMS measurements, it adjusts speed and voltage to match the bus and closes the breaker at the precise moment. Once paralleled, the controller manages active load sharing via droop or isochronous control, and reactive load sharing via cross-current compensation or a dedicated reactive divider. It supports multiple gensets in a common bus configuration and can communicate with a power management system for coordinated control.
The PPU-3 features a large graphical display showing all electrical parameters, alarms, and status information. Navigation is intuitive via soft keys. For system integration, it offers multiple communication options including RS-485 Modbus RTU, Profibus, or Ethernet, enabling remote monitoring and control. It also provides extensive I/O: digital inputs for various switch states, relay outputs for alarms and control, and analog inputs/outputs for sensors and remote setpoints.
The PPU-3 is used in a wide range of applications: marine main and auxiliary gensets, land-based power plants (including emergency, prime, and continuous power), and industrial cogeneration systems. Its flexibility makes it suitable for simple single-genset standby up to complex multi-genset peak-shaving plants.
By integrating multiple functions, the PPU-3 reduces panel complexity and installation cost. Its advanced protection algorithms enhance system safety and equipment longevity. The user-friendly interface simplifies commissioning and operation. With a robust design compliant with marine and industrial standards, the PPU-3 delivers reliable performance in harsh environments, making it a trusted choice for power professionals worldwide.
