The OMRON FQ2-D31 is a self-contained vision sensor system from the FQ2 series, featuring a built-in 3.5-inch color touch screen LCD. This “Touch Finder” combines a high-resolution camera, image processing engine, and user interface in one compact unit, eliminating the need for an external PC or monitor. It is designed for on-site inspection setup, real-time monitoring, and result verification. The FQ2-D31 supports pattern matching, edge detection, blob analysis, and barcode/2D code reading, making it ideal for standalone inspection applications in packaging, assembly, and quality control.
The integrated 3.5-inch color TFT LCD has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) and is equipped with a resistive touch panel. The touch interface allows users to draw inspection regions, set thresholds, and view pass/fail results directly on the screen. The display is sunlight-readable (400 cd/m²) and has an anti-glare coating. The unit includes physical function keys (START, STOP, MENU) and a jog dial for quick navigation. The user interface supports multiple languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, etc.).

The FQ2-D31 incorporates a 2-megapixel (1600 x 1200) monochrome CMOS sensor with global shutter, capable of capturing up to 60 frames per second. The lens is a C-mount type (not included; user selects appropriate lens for the application). The unit provides built-in white LED lighting (ring light) with adjustable intensity. The electronic shutter speed ranges from 1/10 to 1/50,000 second. The sensor’s high dynamic range (HDR) mode allows inspection of shiny or dark objects. The field of view depends on the lens and working distance.

The FQ2-D31 offers a comprehensive library of inspection tools: pattern matching (correlation), edge position, edge width, area measurement, grayscale search, OCR (character recognition), barcode (1D), and 2D codes (Data Matrix, QR). Up to 32 different inspection scenes (jobs) can be stored, each containing multiple tools. The unit supports position compensation (rotation and translation) and can output pass/fail results via discrete I/O or Ethernet. Inspection results can be logged to internal memory (1000 images) or transferred to a network drive via FTP.
The FQ2-D31 provides an Ethernet port (10/100Base-T) for remote monitoring, configuration, and image transfer. It supports EtherNet/IP and TCP/IP protocols. A USB 2.0 port allows connection of a mouse or USB flash drive for data backup. An RS-232C port (9-pin) is available for serial communication with a PLC or barcode reader. The discrete I/O includes 6 inputs (trigger, scene select) and 6 outputs (pass, fail, busy, error) via a 26-pin connector (NPN/PNP selectable). The unit can also output an analog video signal (NTSC/PAL) for connection to a larger monitor.
The FQ2-D31 is housed in a rugged aluminum enclosure rated IP40 (when using the optional front cover). Dimensions: 110mm (H) x 80mm (W) x 60mm (D) excluding lens. Weight: 0.5 kg. Operating temperature: 0°C to 50°C, storage -20°C to 60°C. Humidity: 35% to 85% non-condensing. Power supply: 24 VDC ±10%, 500 mA typical. The unit meets CE, UL, and RoHS standards.
No external software is required; all configuration is done using the touch screen. The user captures a reference image, defines inspection regions using drawing tools, selects the inspection tool (e.g., pattern match), adjusts the threshold, and saves the scene. The unit includes a “teach” function that automatically calculates optimal settings. For advanced users, a PC-based software (FQ Vision Editor) is available for offline programming and batch editing. The system also supports password protection to prevent unauthorized changes.
The FQ2-D31 is used for: label presence and alignment on bottles, orientation verification of electronic components, missing screw detection in automotive assemblies, date code reading on pharmaceutical packaging, and part counting in blister packs. Its integrated display allows operators to see inspection results immediately, reducing setup time. The unit is often mounted on production lines next to the inspection station, replacing multiple components (camera, PC, monitor).
Order number: FQ2-D31 (camera head only). A C-mount lens (e.g., FQ-Lens-8mm) and I/O cable (FQ-WD02) are required separately. The unit includes a power connector and a quick start guide. OMRON provides a 2-year warranty. The FQ2-D31 is still in production as of 2025, but the FQ2 series has been partially superseded by the FH series. For new designs, consider the FH-1 series for higher speed.
