Honeywell TCF901 Thermal Conductivity Gas Detector

The Honeywell TCF901 is a high-performance thermal conductivity gas detector designed for continuous monitoring of hydrogen and binary gas mixtures in industrial environments. Utilizing advanced thermal conductivity sensing technology, the TCF901 provides accurate and stable measurement of gas concentrations, making it an essential component for safety systems in refineries, chemical plants, hydrogen production facilities, and power generation applications.

Measurement Principle

The TCF901 operates on the principle of thermal conductivity, which measures the ability of a gas to conduct heat. Hydrogen has a significantly higher thermal conductivity than most other gases, enabling precise concentration measurement in binary mixtures. The sensor consists of two matched thermistors arranged in a Wheatstone bridge configuration. One thermistor is exposed to the sample gas, while the other is sealed in a reference gas. The bridge output is directly proportional to the hydrogen concentration, providing a linear and stable signal.

The detector meets the requirements of EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-1 for flameproof enclosures.

Integration and Communication

The detector provides a standard 4-20 mA analog output, which can be directly interfaced with distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), or safety instrumented systems (SIS). HART communication enables digital access to diagnostic data, including sensor status, calibration information, and device configuration. This allows remote monitoring and predictive maintenance without interrupting process operations.

The detector features a non-intrusive magnetic switch for local configuration, enabling adjustments without opening the enclosure. All calibration and diagnostic data are stored in non-volatile memory.

In addition to hazardous area approvals, the TCF901 complies with IEC 61508 for functional safety, achieving SIL 2 capability. It also meets EMC requirements per EN 61326-1 and RoHS environmental standards. The detector is manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management systems.
