The Kongsberg RAIC400 is a remote analog input and output controller designed for distributed automation systems in marine and offshore applications. This compact unit provides high-accuracy analog signal conditioning, enabling integration of field sensors and actuators with central control systems. The RAIC400 is built for reliability in harsh environments, offering galvanic isolation, diagnostic features, and flexible communication options.
Analog input channels for 4-20 mA and voltage signals
Analog output channels for control signal generation
High-resolution analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion
Galvanic isolation between channels and system power
Modbus RTU communication over RS-485
Rugged enclosure suitable for marine environments
The RAIC400 provides multiple analog input channels configurable for 4-20 mA current loops or 0-10 V voltage signals. Each input features 16-bit resolution for precise measurement of process variables such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow. Input circuits include overvoltage protection and filtering to ensure stable readings in electrically noisy industrial environments. The unit supports both 2-wire and 4-wire transmitter connections with integrated loop power available on selected channels.
Analog output channels deliver 4-20 mA or 0-10 V signals for controlling final control elements including positioners, variable frequency drives, and actuators. Output resolution is 16-bit, ensuring smooth and accurate control. Each output channel is short-circuit protected and includes diagnostic monitoring to detect open-circuit or overload conditions. Output update rates are configurable to match the response requirements of the controlled process.
The RAIC400 communicates via Modbus RTU protocol over an RS-485 serial interface. This industry-standard protocol enables integration with a wide range of automation systems, programmable logic controllers, and operator stations. The unit supports both master and slave configurations, allowing flexible deployment in distributed control architectures. Baud rates up to 115200 bps are supported, with configurable parity and stop bit settings.

Comprehensive diagnostic features support system reliability and maintenance:
Input channel status monitoring (open-circuit detection, out-of-range)
Output channel fault detection (short-circuit, overload)
Internal temperature monitoring
Power supply voltage monitoring
Communication watchdog with configurable timeout
LED indicators for power, communication, and channel status
The RAIC400 is housed in a compact DIN-rail mountable enclosure constructed from corrosion-resistant materials. The housing is designed to withstand the vibration, humidity, and temperature extremes encountered in marine engine rooms and offshore installations. Terminal connections are arranged for convenient access, with clearly labeled terminals for power, communication, and field wiring. The unit meets IP20 protection for internal installation and IP66 front panel options are available for exposed locations.
Operating temperature: -25°C to +70°C
Storage temperature: -40°C to +85°C
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing
Vibration resistance: IEC 60068-2-6 compliant
EMC: IEC 60945, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-4
The RAIC400 is deployed across a wide range of marine and offshore automation applications:
Engine room monitoring for temperature, pressure, and flow
Fuel and lube oil systems
Cooling water and auxiliary systems
HVAC control and monitoring
Tank level monitoring and management
Process control for offshore facilities
Installation involves DIN rail mounting in a control cabinet or panel. Field wiring connects to pluggable terminal blocks for simplified installation and maintenance. Configuration is performed using a PC-based software tool, allowing assignment of channel parameters, scaling, alarm limits, and communication settings. The configuration can be saved and restored for rapid deployment of multiple units. Default settings enable basic operation without complex programming.
The RAIC400 is manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management systems and complies with applicable marine and industrial standards. It meets CE requirements for electromagnetic compatibility and safety. The unit is suitable for integration into systems requiring DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, or Bureau Veritas type approval, with certification documentation available upon request.
Designed for low-maintenance operation, the RAIC400 has no user-serviceable internal components. Periodic inspection of wiring connections and environmental conditions is recommended. Kongsberg provides technical support, configuration software updates, and spare parts to ensure long-term system availability.
