The Turck MK33-LI-EX0 is a high-performance inductive proximity sensor designed for non-contact detection of metallic objects in hazardous environments. With its intrinsic safety certification, this sensor is approved for installation in areas where explosive gas or dust atmospheres may be present, making it suitable for chemical processing, petroleum refining, and other high-risk industrial applications.
The MK33-LI-EX0 carries Ex (explosion protection) certification, confirming its suitability for use in hazardous locations. The intrinsically safe design limits electrical and thermal energy to levels below those required to ignite a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture. This certification enables direct installation in Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 gas environments, as well as Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22 dust environments, providing maximum flexibility for hazardous area installations.
The sensor operates on 24 VDC power and features a PNP (positive switching) output configured as normally open (NO). The maximum output current is 200 mA, suitable for direct connection to PLC inputs or relays. With a switching frequency of up to 100 Hz, the sensor can detect rapidly moving targets, making it suitable for high-speed production lines. The response time of less than 1 ms ensures real-time detection with minimal signal delay.

The MK33-LI-EX0 features a stainless steel housing, providing exceptional corrosion resistance and mechanical durability for harsh industrial environments. The IP67 protection rating ensures complete protection against dust ingress and protection against temporary immersion in water, allowing installation in wash-down areas and outdoor locations. The M12 x 1 threaded mounting design enables secure installation in confined spaces, while the 2-meter integral cable simplifies wiring and eliminates the need for separate connectors.
The sensor operates reliably across a wide temperature range of -25°C to +70°C, accommodating both cold outdoor conditions and warm industrial environments. The non-contact inductive sensing principle provides maintenance-free operation with no moving parts to wear or degrade. This sensor is widely deployed in chemical processing facilities, petroleum refineries, paint finishing lines, grain handling equipment, and pharmaceutical manufacturing where explosive atmospheres may be present.
