Product Overview
The National Instruments cRIO-9047 is an 8 slot CompactRIO controller for embedded monitoring, control, and test applications. It combines a quad core processor, an FPGA, and a real time operating system in a single chassis. The controller is designed to run control logic, acquire data from C Series modules, process signals, and communicate with higher level systems.
The cRIO-9047 is part of the NI CompactRIO platform, which is widely used in industrial automation, machine monitoring, test stands, and research systems. The integrated chassis accepts C Series I/O modules for analog input, analog output, digital I/O, counters, and communication. This modular approach allows engineers to build custom embedded systems with a consistent software environment.
Processor and FPGA Architecture
The cRIO-9047 uses a quad core processor to run the real time operating system and application code. The additional processing cores support more demanding control algorithms, data processing, and communication tasks. The controller also includes an FPGA for high speed I/O processing, custom timing, and deterministic control loops.
LabVIEW Real Time and LabVIEW FPGA are used to develop applications for the processor and FPGA. Engineers can divide tasks between the real time processor and the FPGA based on timing and performance requirements. The FPGA is well suited to high speed signal processing, custom protocol handling, and precise I/O control, while the processor manages logging, network communication, and higher level decision logic.
Eight Slot Chassis and I/O
The cRIO-9047 provides eight slots for C Series modules. This allows a mix of analog input, analog output, digital I/O, counter, and communication modules to be installed in one system. The chassis provides power and communication to the modules and supports synchronization between them. Eight slots support larger I/O counts than compact four slot systems while remaining integrated and rugged.
Engineers can select modules for sensor measurement, actuator control, and network communication. The controller supports synchronization with other C Series modules so data from different signal types can be correlated in time. This is useful in multi sensor test systems and embedded control applications.
Software and Communication
The cRIO-9047 runs a real time operating system and supports LabVIEW Real Time and LabVIEW FPGA development. Applications can perform control loops, data logging, and communication tasks. The controller includes Ethernet and other interfaces for programming, monitoring, and integration with enterprise systems.
The controller can communicate with host computers, databases, and other devices over standard network protocols. It can also be synchronized with other CompactRIO systems and NI hardware where supported. The combination of real time processing, FPGA logic, and modular I/O makes the cRIO-9047 suitable for demanding embedded control and monitoring applications.
