Product Overview
The National Instruments cRIO-9068 is an 8 slot CompactRIO controller for embedded monitoring and control applications. It combines a processor, FPGA, and real time operating system in a single chassis. The controller is designed to run control logic, acquire data from C Series modules, and communicate with higher level systems.
The cRIO-9068 is part of the NI CompactRIO platform, which is used in industrial control, machine monitoring, test stands, and research systems. The integrated chassis accepts C Series I/O modules for analog input, analog output, digital I/O, counters, and communication. This modular approach allows engineers to build custom embedded systems.
Processor and FPGA Architecture
The cRIO-9068 uses a Zynq 7000 system on chip that combines a dual core ARM processor with FPGA logic. The processor runs the real time operating system and application code. The FPGA can implement custom timing, control loops, and high speed I/O processing. This architecture supports deterministic behavior and low latency control.
LabVIEW and LabVIEW FPGA are used to develop applications for the processor and FPGA. Engineers can divide tasks between the real time processor and the FPGA based on timing and performance requirements. The FPGA is well suited to high speed signal processing, custom protocol handling, and precise I/O control.
Eight Slot Chassis
The cRIO-9068 provides an 8 slot chassis for C Series modules. This allows a mix of analog input, analog output, digital I/O, counter, and communication modules to be installed in one system. The chassis provides power and communication to the modules and supports synchronization between them.
The eight slot form factor is suitable for applications that need more I/O than a compact four slot system while remaining integrated and rugged. Engineers can select modules for sensor measurement, actuator control, and network communication. The chassis is designed for installation in industrial cabinets, test benches, and embedded equipment.
Software and Communication
The cRIO-9068 runs a real time operating system and supports LabVIEW Real Time and LabVIEW FPGA development. Applications can perform control loops, data logging, and communication tasks. The controller includes Ethernet and other interfaces for programming, monitoring, and integration with enterprise systems.
The controller can communicate with host computers, databases, and other devices over standard network protocols. It can also be synchronized with other CompactRIO systems and NI hardware where supported. The combination of real time processing, FPGA logic, and modular I/O makes the cRIO-9068 suitable for embedded control and monitoring applications.
