The OEMAX NX-SLAVE is a bus coupler module that acts as a gateway between a fieldbus network and a local station of NX Series I/O modules. It allows the NX I/O system to be used as a remote slave node in distributed control architectures. The module communicates with a master controller (PLC, PC, or motion controller) over industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET IO, or Modbus TCP, making it ideal for applications requiring decentralized I/O.

The NX-SLAVE enables the construction of distributed I/O systems where I/O points are placed close to sensors and actuators, reducing cabling costs and installation time. The module automatically scans the connected NX I/O modules and creates a process image that is mapped to the fieldbus. The master controller accesses the I/O data using standard cyclic communication (process data objects) and can also perform acyclic parameter access. The integrated switch allows line topology for reduced network infrastructure.
Configuration is performed using the fieldbus master's engineering tool. Electronic data sheets (ESI for EtherCAT, GSDML for PROFINET, EDS for Modbus TCP) are provided. The module supports automatic addressing of NX I/O modules and can be hot-swapped in some configurations. LEDs provide clear diagnostics: power, bus status, network link/activity, and error indication. The module also supports firmware updates via the fieldbus.
The NX-SLAVE is ideal for large manufacturing lines with distributed control cabinets, material handling systems, conveyor control, packaging machinery, and process automation. It is also used in building automation, water treatment facilities, and any application where I/O is physically separated from the main controller.
