The OEMAX NX-SCU is a versatile serial communication module for the OEMAX NX Series PLC system. It provides two independent, galvanically isolated serial ports that can be individually configured as RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485. The module supports standard protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII (master/slave), and user-defined protocol macros, making it suitable for connecting the PLC to a wide range of serial devices, including HMIs, barcode readers, weigh scales, printers, and legacy instruments.

The NX-SCU includes a powerful protocol macro function that allows users to create custom communication sequences for devices that do not use standard Modbus. This macro language supports send/receive data frames, checksum calculation, and conditional branching. The module can also operate in no-protocol mode, where the CPU directly controls the transmission and reception of raw data bytes, ideal for interfacing with printers, barcode scanners, or custom ASCII-based devices.
Configuration is performed through the OEMAX PLC programming software, with intuitive wizards for setting communication parameters, Modbus slave addressing, and data mapping. The module includes front-panel LEDs for power, communication activity, and error status. Diagnostic functions include error counters, loopback tests, and real-time monitoring of sent/received frames. The isolation protects the PLC from ground loops and voltage spikes common in industrial serial networks.
The NX-SCU is ideal for connecting the PLC to Modbus RTU networks of drives, power meters, and sensors; linking to weigh scales, barcode readers, and RFID readers; communicating with printers and label makers; integrating with legacy serial instruments in retrofit projects; and implementing custom serial gateways or data concentrators.
