The Omron 3Z4SP-C22 is a compact smart camera designed for visual positioning and part recognition. It integrates image acquisition, processing, and output into a single unit. The sensor performs pattern matching, edge detection, and coordinate calculation, sending position data to a PLC or robot controller via Ethernet or digital I/O.
Image sensor: 1/3 inch CMOS, 752 x 480 pixels (VGA). Frame rate: 60 fps. Lens: 6mm fixed focal length (C-mount compatible). Field of view varies with working distance – standard 50mm x 40mm at 200mm distance. Illumination: built-in white LED ring light (adjustable intensity). The sensor is configured using Omron Vision Editor software (free download). Users can teach reference patterns by capturing an image and defining a search region. Advanced tools include barcode reading, OCR (optical character recognition), and measurement of distances between edges. No programming language required; uses intuitive wizard. Up to 32 inspection items per program.
Two primary methods: 1) Digital I/O – Trigger input from PLC sends image capture; then pass/fail and run condition outputs can be used for sorting. 2) Ethernet – PLC sends start command and reads position data via Modbus registers. For high-speed applications, the sensor can output coordinates in less than 50ms after trigger. A serial RS-232C interface is also available.
