The Telemecanique TSX7 series (later acquired by Schneider Electric) is a modular programmable logic controller system widely used in industrial automation from the 1980s to early 2000s. This document covers four key components: the TSX 47 40 CPU module, the TSXDST3292 digital I/O module, the TSX SUP 40 power supply, and the TSXLES64 communication module. These units are often found together in TSX7 racks (e.g., TSX RACK 17) and are used for machine control, process automation, and material handling.
The TSX 47 40 is a central processing unit for the TSX7 system. It features a 16-bit microprocessor with 64 KB of user program memory (RAM, battery-backed) and 32 KB of data memory. The CPU supports ladder diagram programming via the PL7 software (DOS-based). It includes a built‑in RS-232C port for programming and a second port for host communication. The module has a real‑time clock, 16 digital inputs, and 12 digital outputs (transistor, 24 VDC) directly on the CPU. It occupies one slot in the TSX rack. Operating temperature: 0°C to 60°C. Battery life: 3 years.
The TSXDST3292 is a mixed digital I/O module providing 32 inputs and 32 outputs. Inputs are 24 VDC (sink/source, 7 mA), with 3 ms filter. Outputs are transistor (sink, 0.5 A per point, protected). The module includes LED indicators for each channel and a 40‑pin connector for field wiring (requires a separate cable, TSXBLY01). The module occupies one slot and communicates with the CPU via the backplane bus. Power consumption: 5 VDC @ 200 mA, plus external 24 VDC for outputs (2 A max). It is suitable for interfacing with sensors, actuators, and relays.
The TSX SUP 40 is a power supply module for the TSX7 rack. It accepts 100-240 VAC (50/60 Hz) or 24-48 VDC (selectable via jumpers) and provides +5 VDC (3 A) and 24 VDC (0.5 A) for the backplane and external sensors. The module has a built‑in fan for cooling (audible noise < 45 dBA). It includes overload and short‑circuit protection, as well as a status LED for power good. The TSX SUP 40 occupies the leftmost slot of the rack and has dimensions 250mm x 100mm x 150mm. Operating temperature: 0°C to 55°C. Efficiency is >75%.
The TSXLES64 is a communication interface module that provides RS-232C and RS-422/485 ports for connection to host computers, printers, or other PLCs. It supports the Uni-Telway protocol (Schneider’s proprietary bus) and Modbus RTU. The module has its own microprocessor and 16 KB of buffer memory. It can be configured as a master or slave. The TSXLES64 occupies one slot and requires external 24 VDC power (100 mA). Baud rates up to 19200 bps. The module includes diagnostic LEDs for communication activity and error status.

All these modules are designed for the TSX7 backplane (e.g., TSX RACK 17 with 4, 6, or 8 slots). The CPU must be placed in the first slot after the power supply. I/O modules and communication modules can be placed in any remaining slot. The system supports up to 2048 I/O points using multiple racks connected via a TSXLES extension module. Programming is done with a PC running PL7-07 software (DOS) or a hand‑held programmer (TSXPG07). The battery for the CPU is located on the front panel (TSX BAT 01).
All TSX7 modules are rated IP20 and designed for DIN rail or screw mounting. Operating temperature: 0°C to 60°C, storage -20°C to 70°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. Vibration: 0.5G (10-57 Hz). They meet CE and UL standards (legacy). Dimensions per module: 250mm (H) x 30mm (W) x 150mm (D). Weight: approx. 0.8 kg per module.
A complete TSX7 system with TSX 47 40, TSXDST3292, TSX SUP 40, and TSXLES64 is used in packaging lines, conveyor systems, batch process control, and water treatment plants. The system is still found in legacy installations, particularly in Europe. The TSXLES64 allows connection to modern SCADA systems via Modbus-to-Ethernet gateways.
These products are obsolete and no longer manufactured by Schneider Electric. Spare parts are available through aftermarket suppliers. Replacement batteries for the CPU are still available (CR2032 with holder). The PL7 software can be run on DOSBox emulator. For upgrading, Schneider recommends the Modicon M221 or M241 series. This documentation is provided for reference to support existing installations.
