Yaskawa SJDE‑08APA Compact 100V 100W Servo Amplifier

The Yaskawa SJDE‑08APA is a compact, single‑phase servo amplifier from the SJDE series, designed to drive small AC servo motors (such as the Yaskawa SGMJV or OMRON R7M series) in low‑power applications. It operates on 100 V AC input (single‑phase) and delivers a continuous output of 100 W. The amplifier supports position, speed, and torque control modes, making it suitable for laboratory automation, small conveyors, pick‑and‑place units, and medical devices.

Electrical Specifications

Rated input voltage: single‑phase 100‑115 V AC ±10%, 50/60 Hz. Rated input current: 1.5 A. Output capacity: 100 W (0.1 kW). Output current: continuous 1.1 A RMS, maximum 3.2 A for 3 seconds. The amplifier uses PWM control with a switching frequency of 15 kHz, reducing motor audible noise. Built‑in regenerative resistor handles deceleration energy; no external resistor is required for typical inertia ratios up to 5 times the motor inertia. The drive is compliant with low‑voltage directive EN 61800‑5‑1.


Control Modes and Performance

The SJDE‑08APA supports three control modes: position (pulse train input), speed (analog voltage reference), and torque (analog voltage reference). In position mode, it accepts line driver (max 500 kpps) or open collector (max 200 kpps) pulse inputs. Speed control range is 1:5000 with ±0.01% stability. Torque accuracy is ±5% of rated torque. The amplifier includes a built‑in 13‑bit incremental encoder interface (2048 P/R quadruple). Auto‑tuning automatically sets gain values based on measured load inertia (up to 30 times motor inertia). Vibration suppression filters reduce mechanical resonance.

I/O and Communication

The drive provides: 6 digital inputs (servo ON, alarm reset, gain select, forward/reverse run inhibit, and pulse input enable), 3 digital outputs (servo ready, alarm, positioning completion). One analog input (±10 V) for speed or torque reference. One analog output (0‑10 V) for monitoring speed, torque, or current. Communication is via RS‑232C (CN3 connector) for parameter setting and monitoring using Yaskawa’s SigmaWin+ software. The amplifier also supports optional fieldbus modules (DeviceNet, Profibus) via the CN6 slot.

Protection and Safety

Protective functions include overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload (electronic thermal), encoder error, overspeed, and regenerative error. The drive has a built‑in dynamic brake that engages on servo OFF or alarm. It meets EN 61800‑3 (EMC environment second environment) and EN 61800‑5‑1 (safety). The operating ambient temperature is 0‑55 °C, with storage at -20‑85 °C. The enclosure is rated IP20, suitable for control cabinet installation.

Dimensions and Mounting

Dimensions (W×H×D): 40 mm × 120 mm × 110 mm. Weight 0.4 kg. The amplifier is designed for DIN rail mounting (35 mm) or direct screw mounting. Adequate ventilation clearance: 40 mm top and bottom. The heatsink fan is not required (natural convection cooling). Connectors: power and motor using 3‑pin screw terminal blocks, control signals via 10‑pin removable connector.

Applications

The SJDE‑08APA is ideal for small robotic grippers, desktop pick‑and‑place machines, electronic component handling, and lab automation. Its compact footprint allows it to be placed close to the motor, reducing cable lengths and EMI. The combination of 100 W power and simple pulse input makes it a cost‑effective upgrade from stepper motors in applications requiring higher speed or closed‑loop control.
