The global geothermal community gathered to share insights

At 9 o 'clock on September 15, the Great Hall on the fourth floor of the National Convention Center was filled with "hot" feelings and "green" meaning.

On the big screen, the development and application of geothermal farming, geothermal power generation, geothermal hot springs and geothermal heating in the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter in China's provinces (regions and municipalities) are displayed. The conference has attracted much attention. Hosted by the National Geothermal Energy Center and hosted by SINOPEC, more than 1,400 guests from 54 countries attended, including domestic and foreign government leaders, industry leaders, authoritative scholars, technical experts, business executives, etc., in-depth exchange of cutting-edge technologies in the field of global geothermal exploration and development, sharing the development achievements of the geothermal industry in various countries, regulations and policies, financial strategies, market information and products and services. "The World Geothermal Congress plays an important role in bringing together key interlocutors in the geothermal field to exchange information and experiences, pool ideas and resources, and build Bridges between countries, businesses and people." Icelandic Prime Minister Jakobsdottir said in a video message that the clean energy transition must be a priority and can only be achieved through close international cooperation.

"China is a global leader in the geothermal industry, and Sinopec is the largest company in the direct utilization of district heating and geothermal energy, and is the best partner for the 2023 World Geothermal Congress." Sylvain Blog, president of the International Geothermal Association, believes that the conference has opened a new era of geothermal.

"We will give full play to the advantages of technology, talent and management accumulated over the years, deepen cooperation with the global geothermal community, and jointly promote the high-quality development of the geothermal industry." Ma Yongsheng, honorary director of the Organizing Committee of the 2023 World Geothermal Congress and chairman of Sinopec, said.

For the first time, the national keynote report on geothermal energy, "High-quality Development Report of China's Geothermal Industry," was released. The report pointed out that under the strong role of clean heating demand, China has gradually formed a geothermal development path based on heating (cooling), which provides a new idea for international geothermal development. By the end of 2021, China's geothermal heating (cooling) capacity will reach 1.33 billion square meters. In the next few years, geothermal clean heating in northern China, geothermal heating (cooling) in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and geothermal power generation in and around the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will remain hot spots for industrial development.

The authoritative report on the progress of geothermal Power generation in the world was released. According to the report, there are currently 31 countries in the world with geothermal plants in operation. The world's total installed geothermal power capacity has grown from 2,110 MW in 1980 to 16,260 MW today. In the future, as the world urgently needs to maintain the 1.5 degree Celsius temperature control target, geothermal power will have a broad prospect.

The authoritative report on the progress of geothermal heating and Cooling in the world was released. According to the report, by the end of 2022, the global installed thermal capacity for heating and cooling is equivalent to 173 million kilowatts, a 60% increase from 2020, and the largest application areas are heating and cooling of buildings, followed by health, recreation and tourism, agriculture and food processing. China's growth has been the most significant.

On the afternoon of September 17, the closing ceremony of the conference was held, and under the joint witness of representatives of the global geothermal industry, the "Beijing Declaration - Geothermal Development is the right time" was officially released, injecting a strong impetus to achieve high-quality development of the global geothermal industry.

The declaration pointed out that it will adhere to the four principles of sustainable development, open cooperation, fairness and rationality, sharing and win-win, promote the high-quality development of the global geothermal industry, and called on the geothermal industry decision-makers to strengthen public publicity and policy support for geothermal, promote the innovation and development of global geothermal technology, promote the transfer of geothermal technology and knowledge, and link the successful global energy transformation. We will promote the joint and integrated development of geothermal energy with other clean energy sources.

This is one of the important outcomes of the 2023 World Geothermal Congress. 3 important events, 8 peripheral events, 88 parallel forums, more than 400 technical reports, more than 200 poster displays... For three days, the activities of the World Geothermal Congress were in full swing, not only bringing brainstorming, but also focusing on the innovation achievements made by the geothermal industry in various fields around the world.

"Ethiopia is one of the countries in Africa with great geothermal potential, with more than 22 areas currently identified as having geothermal resources suitable for power generation, with a total geothermal power generation potential of more than 10,000 MWH." At the Global Geothermal Cooperation Forum held on the afternoon of September 15, the Minister of State of the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines, Puke, made a report on the spot.

The forum is one of the important activities of the World Geothermal Congress 2023. 12 guests from all over the world discussed the development of the global geothermal industry, discussed the frontier technology and future development of geothermal, and provided valuable ideas and inspiration for promoting the research, development and application of geothermal science and technology in the world. "The IGA standard" China's Geothermal heating Recommended Practices "plays a normative and leading role in the evaluation, design, construction and standardized operation of the geothermal industry." On the afternoon of September 17, at the IGA (International Geothermal Association) standards conference, Liu Deshun, director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Science and Technology Equipment of the National Energy Administration, said.

It is understood that this is the first industry standard released in the global geothermal field, led by the geothermal professional standards Technical Committee of the energy industry, Sinopec, petrochina, Beijing Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration and other units jointly researched and developed, including geothermal resource evaluation, heat load calculation, mining program design, drilling and completion engineering, heating engineering, monitoring and control, and other six parts. It provides a perfect technical standard reference for the global geothermal heating industry, and is of great significance for leading the high-quality development of the geothermal industry and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of national energy.

"At the end of 2022, shallow geothermal heating (cooling) capacity is 810 million square meters, and hydrothermal geothermal heating capacity is 570 million square meters. Geothermal direct utilization of 40,936 MW, accounting for 38 percent of global geothermal direct utilization, has been among the highest in the world since 2004." On September 15, the reporter punched the geothermal energy development technology and equipment special exhibition, and saw the introduction of China's geothermal resources and development and utilization at the world geothermal industry development booth.

Among them, the Xiongan New Area geothermal heating project is shown separately as a typical project of medium and deep hydrothermal geothermal heating.

The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the World Geothermal Congress 2023 over three days. Located on the first floor of the National Convention Center, the exhibition covers an area of 22,000 square meters and is divided into four theme exhibition areas: resource exploration, geothermal development, integrated application, cooperation and exchange, and three important booths including geothermal science popularization, world geothermal industry development, and Sinopec stand are planned simultaneously. More than 220 enterprises at home and abroad participated in the exhibition, the number of exhibitors, exhibition area and display categories are the most in the previous world geothermal Congress.

It is understood that China is rich in geothermal resources, accounting for about one-sixth of the global geothermal resources, and the development and utilization potential is huge. China's geothermal direct utilization scale has been ranked first in the world for many years, and the data released by the 2021 World Geothermal Congress shows that in 2020, China's geothermal direct utilization installed capacity accounted for 37.7% of the world. In recent years, the scale of utilization of medium-deep hydrothermal geothermal energy heating in China has continued to expand, playing an important role in clean heating and air pollution prevention in northern China, and providing reference for the high-quality development of the global geothermal industry.

At the Sinopec booth, there is such a set of data is very prominent, attracting many visitors to stop - Sinopec geothermal heating capacity of 85 million square meters, serving more than 1 million residents, geothermal heating capacity of more than 1 million square meters of cities up to 22, built geothermal heating "smokeless city" 10, can replace standard coal 1.615 million tons per year, Annual carbon dioxide emission reduction of 4.2 million tons, equivalent to 2.23 million trees planted.

The reporter noted that there are also geothermal resources and constituency evaluation technology, geothermal efficient development technology, "heat without water consumption" engineering technology and other technical demonstrations. In the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, geothermal heating capacity of 42 million square meters has been built, serving 420,000 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2.06 million tons per year. In the Yellow River Basin, geothermal heating capacity of 40.3 million square meters has been built, serving 400,000 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.99 million tons per year. Geothermal heating capacity of 2.52 million square meters has been built in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, serving 25,000 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 110,000 tons per year.

It is reported that Sinopec is a leading enterprise in the development and utilization of geothermal resources in China, with 1 key laboratory for the development and utilization of geothermal resources, more than 130 technical patents, and geothermal business has radiated more than 60 cities in 11 provinces (regions and cities). It is expected that by the end of this year, Sinopec's geothermal heating capacity will exceed 100 million square meters.
