Two directions of sustainable development of pharmaceutical industry: green production, energy saving and environmental protection

Forge ahead "14th Five-Year Plan", towards a new journey. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, it is a critical period for China to further promote the construction of ecological civilization, but also a critical period for promoting high-quality economic development with high-level protection of the ecological environment, a window period for continuing to fight the battle of pollution prevention and control, and an important period for achieving the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality and the goal of building a beautiful China. In order to respond to the call of the "14th Five-Year Plan", the pharmaceutical industry needs to deeply implement the concept of green production, energy conservation and environmental protection to achieve sustainable development of the industry.

Direction one: Green production

The pharmaceutical industry is an important part of China's national economy, which is of great significance for protecting and promoting people's health, improving the quality of life, and promoting economic development and social progress.

In recent years, the state has vigorously promoted the healthy development plan, including a series of favorable policies such as "Several policies to promote the accelerated development of the biological industry" and "Major New Drug Creation" science and technology Major special Plan ", which have brought huge development opportunities for China's pharmaceutical enterprises. Prospective Industry Research Institute data show that in 2020, the main business income of enterprises above designated size in the pharmaceutical industry reached 2,614.74 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0%; The total profit reached 345.7.0 billion yuan, an increase of 7.0% year-on-year. At the same time, pharmaceutical companies increased investment in innovation, and fixed asset investment in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry grew by 8.4% in the year, an increase of 4.4 percentage points year-on-year in 2019.

Opportunities are often accompanied by challenges, all along, the pharmaceutical industry is a high-pollution industry, according to the classification standards, the pharmaceutical industry is divided into chemical apis, chemical pharmaceutical preparations, biological agents, proprietary Chinese medicines, medical devices, health materials, Chinese medicine decoction pieces seven sub-industries, of which chemical apis, chemical pharmaceutical preparations are the two sub-industries that account for a relatively large, pollution is particularly serious. Data from the China Business Industry Research Institute show that the production of chemical drugs has been growing in recent years, and the output of 2.734 million tons in 2020, an increase of 2.7%. At the same time that the output of API enterprises continues to expand, the accompanying pollutants are also a big problem.

In general, the types of pollution mainly involved in the pharmaceutical industry include air pollution, water pollution, solid waste pollution, noise pollution and so on. If the treatment of these pollutants is not up to standard, it will bring many negative effects to the environment and restrict the sustainable development of the pharmaceutical industry. In recent years, in order to accelerate the development of the pharmaceutical industry in the green direction, relevant policy measures have been introduced. Among them, since the implementation of the new version of the Environmental Protection Tax Law in 2015, a large number of pharmaceutical and chemical enterprises have entered the red line of environmental protection pressure, forcing pharmaceutical enterprises to make advance deployment from strategy and management, and further explore the reduction and resource utilization of pollutants such as wastewater, waste gas and solid waste. And pay more attention to the innovation of science and technology, the transformation of process technology and investment in environmental protection equipment.

At present, the concept of green production has continued to penetrate into the production process of pharmaceutical companies, more and more pharmaceutical companies by adhering to the "green oriented", to build a clean, low-carbon, circular green manufacturing system, to build a smart pharmaceutical factory in the era of pharmaceutical industry 4.0 and cover the full life cycle of pharmaceutical manufacturing green production chain. According to the notice of the five batches of green manufacturing list issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a total of 115 pharmaceutical companies have been selected into the national green manufacturing list. These pharmaceutical companies have been affirmed and encouraged in the process of promoting green pharmaceuticals and taking the road of sustainable development. While demonstrating their own strength and charm, they will also have a good demonstration role for other enterprises. Help the entire pharmaceutical industry accelerate the realization of a "win-win" situation between economic development and environmental protection, and win the blue sky defense war.

Direction 2: Energy conservation and environmental protection

The pharmaceutical industry is also a major energy consumption, in the era of the prevailing low-carbon economy, pharmaceutical companies shoulder important social responsibilities, and it is imperative to promote the innovation, application and development of energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. Energy conservation in the pharmaceutical industry mainly refers to the conservation of water, electricity and steam.

In terms of the application status of energy-saving technology in the pharmaceutical industry, taking electric energy as an example, the electric energy consumption of the pharmaceutical industry mainly comes from two aspects: power energy consumption and lighting power consumption, of which the power energy consumption is saved mainly by replacing the original common frequency motor by frequency conversion control motor. For the saving of lighting energy consumption, under the premise of meeting GMP standards, the appropriate lighting mode and reasonable selection of lighting control mode are selected to achieve the purpose of reducing lighting energy consumption.

In the case of China's energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection policies continue to advance, the task of energy conservation and environmental protection in the pharmaceutical industry is still severe, how to achieve energy conservation and environmental protection goals in the whole industry, scientific and technological innovation is the key. Taking screw machine as an example, the current domestic screw machine manufacturers are still pursuing the goal of more energy saving products, according to the current situation, even if the manufacturer's energy saving can reach 1%, it is already a great challenge. But its energy-saving road still needs to continue. At present, many domestic pharmaceutical equipment companies are focusing on opportunities, strengthening innovation investment, and realizing the rapid development of their own enterprises while achieving product upgrades.
