Analysis of current situation and development prospect of China's mold industry

Molds are all kinds of molds and tools used in industrial production for injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, die casting or forging, smelting, stamping and other methods to get the required products. According to the mold forming processing technology, the mold can be divided into stamping mold, plastic mold, casting mold, forging mold, rubber mold five categories, widely used in household appliances, automobiles, aerospace and other national defense, civil industry production. At present, China's mold market share distribution is mainly: plastic mold market accounted for 45%, stamping mold market accounted for 37%, casting mold market accounted for 9%, forging press and rubber mold market accounted for 9%.

Mold steel and plastic are the core raw material products required for mold production. In 2021, the output of die steel and primary form plastics in China will be 472,900 tons and 11,0391,000 tons, respectively, with year-on-year change rates of -5.12% and 4.71%, respectively. In 2022, the output of die steel and primary form plastics will be 463,400 tons and 119.535,900 tons respectively. Among them, due to the extreme contraction of profits and the obvious weakening of the demand side of the dual factors, China's die steel production has shown a year-on-year decline.

In 2021, China's mold production will be 24,509,200 sets, an increase of 5%. The market size of the industry was 326.609 billion yuan, an increase of 5.73%. Affected by the expansion of downstream application fields, China's mold industry market continues to develop. According to the comprehensive determination of upstream raw material consumption and downstream application market demand, in 2022, the output of domestic mold products will reach 25.2445 million sets, and the industry market will further expand to 342.939 billion yuan.

According to the statistics of the China Mold Industry Association, at present, the main application fields of China's mold products are concentrated in the automotive, electronics, IT, and home appliance industries. In 2022, domestic car sales reached 26.86 million, up 2.25% year-on-year. With the gradual recovery of the automotive industry, the largest application market of mold products, and the substantial growth of the production and sales of new energy vehicles, it continues to pull the scale expansion of China's mold industry.

Third, import and export: the scale of product exports has expanded, and the level of domestic mold development is higher

China's mold manufacturing industry has developed well, and the export trade of the industry is flourishing. In 2022, the import and export trade amount of China's mold industry will be $749 million and $6.16 billion, respectively, with a year-on-year change rate of -16.35% and 5.12%. With the improvement of domestic mold design and manufacturing technology, the amount of China's mold import trade has declined year by year, and the scale of industry export trade has expanded year by year.

According to the data analysis of China Customs, the import and export trade products of China's mold industry are mainly plastic or rubber molds, and the export price of plastic or rubber molds is much higher than the import price. In 2022, the average price of import and export trade products of plastic or rubber mold products in the domestic mold industry is 6.16 US dollars/set and 82.49 US dollars/set, respectively, and the year-on-year change rate is -41.47% and -26.86%, respectively.

Fourth, development trend: mold products precision, intelligent development, industry market competition has further intensified

1, the upgrade of market consumption demand, precision mold development has become the key

According to the processing accuracy, mechanical processing can be divided into general processing, precision processing and ultra-precision processing. For the mold, the accuracy of the size is the most important factor in the manufacture of high precision, high quality and high-tech products. At present, with the double upgrade of consumption and manufacturing industry, the arrival of the "Made in China 2025" era, and the continuous improvement of the requirements of products in all walks of life for molds, the development of mold industry is facing new opportunities and challenges, and mold precision will become the key to product development and production of domestic mold manufacturers.

2, product custom design ability requirements, some small enterprises or will accelerate out

As a customized product for the actual needs of customers, in recent years, the market demand for new industries such as downstream photovoltaic, wind power, automotive lightweight, and consumer electronics has been growing, and the downstream application demand for products has been changing. Therefore, in order to accelerate the response and cater to the market, the ability to carry out synchronous research and development design and production for customers and market demand has gradually become an important indicator to measure the market competitiveness of mold enterprises. In the future, the product design and development investment of mold enterprises will continue to increase, and the market competition in the industry will be further intensified. As a result, some small enterprises with low technology level, weak technology development ability and poor service ability will accelerate their exit and increase industrial concentration.
