ADLINK NEON-2000-Ono Intelligent Camera Hardware Deployment and Trigger Optimization Practice

In edge AI applications such as industrial inspection, intelligent transportation, and robot vision, GPU accelerated intelligent cameras are gradually replacing the discrete solution of "traditional industrial cameras+industrial computers". The NEON-2000-Ono series open camera platform launched by ADLINK is equipped with NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano module, pre installed with Jetpack and drivers, integrating image acquisition, deep learning inference, and industrial I/O control, greatly reducing system integration complexity. This article will provide a complete engineering guide from hardware interface analysis, sensor selection, power and peripheral connections, trigger mode configuration to practical deployment considerations, to help visual engineers quickly put the platform into on-site operation.

Product Overview and Model Differences

The NEON-2000-Ono series currently includes four models, with the core differences being image sensors and triggering capabilities:

Model Sensor Resolution Frame Rate Shutter Type Acquisition Software Trigger Support

NEON-202B-ONO E2V EV76C570 1600 × 1200 (1.9MP) 60fps global shutter Basler Pylon external hardware/software/free running

NEON-203B-ONO Onsemi MT9P031 1920 × 1080 (2MP) 30fps rolling shutter Basler Pylon external hardware/software/free running

NEON-201A-ONO Onsemi AR0234 1920 × 1200 (2MP) 60fps Global Shutter V4L2/Gstreamer Software/Free Run

NEON-202A-Ono Sony IMX334 3840 × 2160 (8MP) 60fps rolling shutter V4L2/Gstreamer software/free running

All models share the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 4GB core (6-core Arm Cortex-A78AE, 512 CUDA+16 Tensor core), 128GB SSD, 4GB LPDDR5, and support Ubuntu system. 202B and 203B use the Basler Pylon SDK, which is suitable for users who are already familiar with the Basler ecosystem; 201A and 202A use standard V4L2/Gstreamer, which is more compatible with open-source toolchains.

Selection suggestion: For high-speed motion scenes (such as conveyor belt detection), priority should be given to global shutter (202B/201A); High resolution static detection can be selected with 8MP 202A; if external hardware triggering synchronization is required, please note that 201A/202A only supports software triggering and cannot receive external hard triggering signals.

Detailed description of hardware interface

1. Bottom interface (main connection area)

DC Jack: 12-24V DC input, requires ≥ 30W power, recommended to use ADLINK adapter (31-62156-1000-A0).

USB Type-C: Supports DisplayPort( 1080P@30fps )USB 3.2 Gen1 (5Gbps) and power supply. Important: When powered by DC Jack, Type-C can provide a maximum power supply of 3W (5V/0.6A) to the outside world, which can be used to connect to USB Hub, but peripherals that consume more than 3W cannot be used. Type-C itself can also serve as the main power input (requiring a 20V PD adapter), but cannot simultaneously supply power to the DC Jack.

GbE network port: 10/100/1000M adaptive.

15 pin D-sub I/O: Provides 4 digital inputs (DI0~DI3), 4 digital outputs (DO0~DO3), a set of UART (TXD/RXD/GND), and DI/O GND.

Among them, Pin 11 (DI0) can be reused as an external hardware trigger input (limited to 202B/203B models only), and Pin 3 (DO0) can be reused as a strobe output for synchronizing LED lighting. DI/DO specifications: Input high level 2~5V, low level 0~0.8V, maximum frequency 10KHz; The output is an open collector electrode, with a maximum current of 100mA and a voltage range of 3.3~30V. The UART baud rate defaults to 9600 8N1.

2. Top interface (debugging and maintenance)

Power LED: Green constant light indicates normal power supply.

System status LED: orange flashing indicates system startup, constant light indicates successful startup.

Micro USB (OTG): Used for system burning.

10 pin Wafer connector: includes system reset, RECORDY, and GND, used for firmware recovery or debugging.

3. Front panel (optical part)

C-type lens interface: compatible with C-mount industrial lenses, with pre installed adapter rings at the factory.

LED light installation thread: can fix circular or strip lights.

Mechanical installation and environmental adaptability

Dimensions: 123.3 × 77.5 × 66.81mm, weight<700g (excluding lens). It can be fixed and installed through the screw holes on both sides. The working temperature range varies by model: 202B/203B is 0-45 ℃ (requires 0.6m/s airflow, 10W mode), 201A/202A is 0-55 ℃. Storage temperature -20~70 ℃, humidity 40~75% (no condensation). Anti vibration 5Gms (5-500Hz), anti impact 30G (half sine, 11ms), ESD contact ± 4kV/air ± 8kV, in compliance with CE/FCC Class A and UL/CB safety certifications.

Attention to heat dissipation: When using in a closed cabinet, active ventilation should be ensured, especially in environments above 40 ℃, otherwise it may trigger core frequency reduction. There may be a risk of high temperature when touching the surface, so avoid directly touching the camera casing during operation.

Power and peripheral connection strategy

NEON-2000-Ono provides two power supply methods:

Independent power supply: Use DC Jack to input 12-24V, Type-C is only used for data transmission and display output (at this time, Type-C can output 5W to peripherals).

Single line power supply: Use a Type-C adapter (20V) that supports PD protocol to complete power supply, video output, and USB communication simultaneously, simplifying wiring (see Figure 3-6). However, it should be noted that Type-C can no longer supply power to the Hub in this mode.

Recommended connection method: Use ADLINK USB Type-C cable (30-01284-0030-A0, with screw lock) to connect to a DP supported monitor, and also connect the USB keyboard and mouse. If more USB interfaces are needed, ADLINK certified Type-C Hub (92-99090-1010) can be used, but the camera needs to be independently powered by a DC Jack at this time, as the Hub will consume the Type-C's 3W power supply capacity.

Important restriction: The I/O configuration of NEON-2000-Ono is incompatible with NVIDIA's official Jetson image, and it is strictly prohibited to use the official image to upgrade or flash the system. If you need to replace the OS or update, you must contact ADLINK to obtain exclusive firmware.

First login and software environment

The default account/password is adlink. The system comes pre installed with Ubuntu+Jetpack SDK, camera driver (Basler Pylon or V4L2), and sample code. The Samples folder on the desktop contains image acquisition and inference testing scripts. The latest example code can be accessed from the GitHub repository https://github.com/AIoT-IST/Samples obtain.

For V4L2 models (201A/202A), you can use v4l2-ctl -- list devices to view device nodes (usually/dev/video0). Preview images using Gstreamer pipeline:

bash

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src io-mode=4 device=/dev/video0 do-timestamp=true !  'video/x-raw,width=1920,height=1080,framerate=60/1,format=UYVY' !  xvimagesink sync=false

Trigger control and synchronization optimization (core function)

For the 202B/203B models that require hardware synchronization, external sensor signals can be connected through D-sub Pin 11 to achieve hard triggering. The triggering mode is set through v4l2-ctl, and the main control parameters are as follows:

Control item description value range (default)

Trigger_mode trigger mode 0=OFF, 1=PULSED, 2=AUTOMATIC SOFT, 3=AUTOMATIC External

The gain in trigger_gain trigger mode is 10000~1280000 (step size 1000), with a default of 10000

Triggerw_bb_mode White Balance Mode 0=Manual Gain, 1=Manual Color Temp, 2=Sunny, 3=Shadow, 4=Indoor, 5=Lamp (default 1)

Low_1atency_mode Low latency mode (reduces exposure delay when enabled) 0/1

Trigger_dart_stop software triggers start stop write 1, write 1 stops again (automatic mode)

Example of actual triggering process

Scenario: Using an external photoelectric sensor to trigger the camera to capture workpieces on the conveyor belt.

Hardware wiring: The sensor output (NPN type) is connected to D-sub Pin 11 (DI0/Trigger In), and the signal ground is connected to Pin 2 or Pin 10 (DI/O GND). Please note that the sensor voltage should be within the range of 0-5V. If the sensor has a 24V output, a series resistor voltage divider or optocoupler isolation should be used.

Software configuration:

bash

# 1. Start Gstreamer preview (running in the background)

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src io-mode=4 device=/dev/video0 do-timestamp=true !  'video/x-raw,width=1600,height=1200,framerate=60/1,format=UYVY' !  xvimagesink sync=false &

# 2. Set the trigger mode to pulse external trigger (trigger_made=1, with low latency enabled)

v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl=trigger_mode=1

v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl=low_latency_mode=1

# 3. If software triggered testing is required (without external signals), perform:

v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl=trigger_start_stop=1

#Every time this command is executed, the camera captures one frame

The automatic software triggering mode (trigger_made=2) is used for continuous triggering: the first trigger_dart_stop=1 starts continuous acquisition, and the second trigger_dart_stop=1 stops.

Important Note:

Hardware triggering is only available for 202B/203B models (201A/202A does not support external triggering).

The triggering pulse width should be greater than the minimum triggering time of the sensor (refer to the sensor manual), usually recommended to be ≥ 10 μ s.

If using strobe output (Pin 3), it can be set as a Strobe signal synchronized with the trigger to light up the LED light source. The delay parameter needs to be adjusted in the driver layer (please refer to the NEON LFR library for specific API).

Digital I/O application wiring

Digital input (sensor signal):

The sensor output is connected to the DI pin, and the COM terminal is connected to GND. Internally integrated pull-up resistor? The manual is not clear, it is recommended to connect an external 10k Ω and pull it up to 3.3V (if the sensor has an open drain output).

The input frequency can reach 10kHz, suitable for encoders or high-speed switch signals.

Digital output (driving small indicator lights or solid-state relays):

DO is an open collector electrode output, which requires an external pull-up resistor to be connected to the load power supply (3.3~30V), with a maximum current of 100mA. Typical connection method: DO is connected to the negative terminal of the load, the positive terminal of the load is connected to VCC, and the power supply ground is connected to the camera GND. Be careful not to overload, otherwise the chip may be damaged.

Common Problems and Maintenance Suggestions

Phenomenon investigation direction

The camera cannot recognize (/dev/video0 does not exist). Check if the USB cable is securely connected and try unplugging it again; Confirm whether the system starts normally (orange LED is always on); Check if the power supply is sufficient (DC Jack or Type-C).

Image preview stuttering or frame loss reduces resolution or frame rate; Check USB bandwidth (Type-C needs to support 5Gbps); Ensure that the CPU/GPU load is not high (turn off other inference tasks).

External triggering is invalid. Confirm whether the model supports hardware triggering (only for 202B/203B); Check if the trigger signal level is between 0 and 5V; measure the waveform of Pin 11 to ground with an oscilloscope; Check if trigger_made is set to 1 or 3.

The system cannot be upgraded or flashed. It is strictly prohibited to use NVIDIA official images. Please contact ADLINK to obtain a dedicated recovery package. Use Wafer connector or Micro USB for recovery mode.

Excessive temperature leads to reduced frequency and increased active heat dissipation (fan), ensuring airflow of 0.6m/s or above; Reduce the operating power mode (such as switching from 10W to 5W, adjust the Jetson power mode).
