ADLINK NuPRO-E330 PICMG 1.3 System Motherboard Selection and Deployment Guide

In the fields of industrial automation, military measurement and control, and medical imaging, full-length system motherboards (SHBs) based on PICMG 1.3 specifications remain the preferred computing platform for many critical task applications due to their standardized external dimensions, rich I/O expansion capabilities, and long-term supply commitments. ADLINK NuPRO-E330 is an industrial grade SHB that supports LGA1156 packaged Intel Core i7/i5/i3 and Pentium processors. Paired with the Intel Q57 Express chipset, it offers up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, 6 serial ports (including 1 multi protocol configurable port), 9 USB 2.0 ports, 6 SATA interfaces (supporting RAID 0/1/5/10), and integrates Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) 6.0 and PCIe 2.0 bus. This board is particularly suitable for industrial control and data acquisition systems that require multi serial communication, data storage redundancy, and remote management capabilities. It is also an ideal upgrade path to replace early LGA775 or 945G chipset motherboards. Product positioning and target applications

The NuPRO-E330 follows the PICMG 1.3 full-length dimension specification (338mm × 126mm) and can be combined with corresponding backplates (such as the NuPRO series backplate) to achieve multiple expansion card combinations. It is positioned as a mid to high end industrial computing platform, suitable for:

Production line automation control: Connect PLC, barcode scanner, sensor, and HMI equipment through multiple serial ports;

Data acquisition and monitoring (SCADA): using RAID storage to ensure the security of historical data, and implementing remote out of band management through AMT;

Medical image processing: compatible with PCIe x16 discrete graphics card or mPCle-8770 graphics card, supporting high-resolution display;

Military/vehicle mounted computing: wide temperature design (working from 0~60 ℃), meeting the requirements of general industrial environments.

Compared to the previous generation LGA775 platform, NuPRO-E330 offers higher computing performance (supporting quad core eight threading), faster I/O bandwidth (PCIe 2.0), and lower power consumption (32nm process processor).


Detailed explanation of compatibility between processors and chipsets

The board supports LGA1156 socket and is compatible with the following processor series (please note TDP and heat sink matching):

Intel Core i7-860: 2.80GHz, 8MB cache, 4-core 8-thread, 45nm, TDP 95W (without built-in graphics card);

Intel Core i5-750:2.66GHz, 8MB cache, 4-core 4-thread, 45nm, TDP 95W (without built-in graphics card);

Intel Core i5-660: 3.33GHz, 4MB cache, 2-core 4-thread, 32nm, TDP 73W (built-in graphics card);

Intel Core i3-540: 3.06GHz, 4MB cache, 2-core 4-thread, 32nm, TDP 73W (built-in graphics card);

Intel Pentium G6950: 2.80GHz, 3MB cache, 2 cores and 2 threads, 32nm, TDP 73W (built-in graphics card).

Selection suggestion:

If high parallel computing capability is required (such as multi-channel video encoding), choose i7-860/i5-750;

If integrated display output is needed to save expansion slots, choose i5-660/i3-540 or G6950;

Please note that the i7-860 and i5-750 do not come with built-in graphics and require an external graphics card (PCIe x16 or mPCle-8770) to light up the monitor.

The chipset is Intel Q57 Express, supporting PCI Express 2.0 (twice the bandwidth of 1.0), providing 6 SATA 3Gb/s ports, and supporting Intel Matrix Storage Technology (RAID 0/1/5/10), suitable for building data redundancy systems. In addition, Q57 supports Intel AMT 6.0 (with specific 82578DM network port), which can achieve remote power management, keyboard/mouse redirection, and system event logging, greatly improving maintenance efficiency.


Memory and Storage Configuration

Memory: 2 240 pin DIMM slots, supporting dual channel DDR3 1066/1333 MHz, with a maximum capacity of 8GB (it is recommended to use 2 × 4GB or 2 × 2GB non ECC, unbuffered memory modules). ECC is usually not required in industrial applications, but if high data reliability is required, industrial grade wide temperature memory can be chosen.

SATA storage: 6 SATA 3Gb/s interfaces, of which 4 are on-board standard 7pin connectors, and the other 2 are led out through the backplane (can be used for hot swappable hard drive enclosures). Supports RAID 0/1/5/10, suitable for building mirrored or parity checked arrays. Note that if using RAID 5, it is necessary to use Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and enable the corresponding options in the BIOS.

Additional storage: onboard a Floppy interface (although gradually phased out, some older devices still require floppy drive firmware updates), and an LPT parallel port (via backplane or cable).
