Typical upgrade and replacement scenarios
Many existing systems are based on older LGA775 platforms (such as Intel Q965/G31 chipset) or AMD platform PICMG 1.3 motherboards, facing issues such as insufficient performance, few peripheral interfaces, and inability to support new operating systems (such as Windows 7/10 64 bit). NuPRO-E330 offers the following significant improvements:
Performance improvement: From dual core to quad core/hyper threading, doubling the performance of integer/floating-point operations;
Memory bandwidth: DDR3 1333 has increased bandwidth by about 60% compared to DDR2 800;
Storage acceleration: Supports RAID to improve data reliability and read/write speed;
Remote management: AMT can significantly reduce on-site maintenance time;
Multiple serial ports: 6 native serial ports to avoid additional expansion cards occupying the slot.
When replacing, attention should be paid to the compatibility of the chassis heat sink (check if the CPU heat sink height matches the chassis limit), whether the backplane supports PICMG 1.3 definition (at least+12V CPU power supply is required, PICMG 1.3 specification requires the backplane to provide additional 12V power supply capability), and whether the operating system drivers are complete (NuPRO-E330 supports Windows XP/7, Server 2008, and mainstream Linux distributions).
Deployment precautions and common issues
CPU heat sink selection: It is necessary to choose the corresponding 1U/2U/3U heat sink according to the height of the chassis. Passive heat sinks cannot meet the 95W TDP and must be paired with fans.
Memory compatibility: Use well-known brand DDR3 1333/1066 non ECC memory, it is recommended to plug in two to activate dual channel mode. If different specifications are mixed, the system will automatically slow down.
BIOS settings: If using an integrated graphics card, shared video memory needs to be allocated in the BIOS (default may be 32MB, can be adjusted to 256MB as needed); If using a dedicated graphics card, ensure that the PCIe initial display settings are correct.
RAID configuration: Set the SATA mode to RAID in the BIOS, press Ctrl+I to enter the Intel RAID configuration interface when booting up, create the array, and then install the operating system (RAID drivers need to be loaded in advance).
Serial port mode switching: Multi protocol switching of COM6 is usually achieved through jumper caps (located near the COM6 pins on the board). Please refer to the jumper table in the manual for details to avoid communication abnormalities caused by mistakenly setting it to high voltage.
AMT activation: The first activation requires entering the ME configuration interface of BIOS, setting management passwords and network parameters, and installing Intel Management Engine interface drivers in the operating system.
Power requirements: It is necessary to ensure that the+12V output capability of the chassis power supply is sufficient (especially when using a 95W CPU), and the PICMG 1.3 backplane needs to provide additional+12V current through the P2 connector.
If encountering startup failure or instability, first check if the CPU cooling fan is running, if the memory is securely plugged in, and clear the CMOS to restore default settings.
Software Support and Lifecycle
The driver of NuPRO-E330 supports Windows XP (32/64), Vista, 7 (32/64), Server 2008, as well as mainstream Linux (Fedora 10, RHEL 5). For Windows 10, you can try using Windows 7 drivers, but it is recommended to first check the latest driver version on the ADLINK official website. As an industrial board, its product lifecycle usually lasts for 5-7 years, making it suitable for long-term projects.
