The Siemens 3VA2340-5HL32-0AA0 is a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) from the advanced SENTRON 3VA2 series, designed for reliable power distribution and equipment protection. This breaker protects electrical circuits against overloads, short circuits, and other disruptive currents. The 3VA2 series is known for its compact design, high switching capacity, and comprehensive range of accessories, making it the first choice for industrial control panels, power supply systems, and building infrastructure.

Current and Voltage Ratings

This 3-pole breaker has a rated operational current (In) of 400 A. Its rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 800 V AC, while the rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp) is 8 kV. The rated operational voltage is 690 V AC. Notably, the 3VA2340-5HL32-0AA0 achieves a high short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) of 55 kA at 415 V AC, guaranteeing safe interruption of high fault currents.

Electronic Trip Unit (ETU): Protection Functions

The circuit breaker is equipped with an ETU320 electronic trip unit, which offers precise and customizable protection. It provides classic L/I protection (Long-Time delay/Short-Time pickup). Overload protection (L) responds to thermal damage caused by prolonged overcurrent with a configurable current setting (Ir) from 160 A to 400 A. The short-circuit protection (I) provides instantaneous disconnection for high overcurrents with a setting range from 1.5 to 10 times the rated current, ensuring selective tripping within the system.

Flexible Installation and Mounting

The 3VA2 series is designed for flexible installation methods to suit different switchgear configurations. This model supports fixed mounting and features front-mounted tunnel-type terminals with a nut keeper kit for secure cable connection. The compact physical dimensions conserve valuable space in the distribution cabinet. It also offers the option of add-on components for rotary operating mechanisms, motorized drives, and auxiliary releases (such as undervoltage and shunt trip), which can be subsequently retrofitted without modifying the breaker.


Mechanical Features and Indication

The 3VA2340-5HL32-0AA0 provides a clear visual status indication through an integrated contact position indicator, allowing personnel to safely view whether the main contacts are open or closed. The operating handle has provisions for a standard padlock to secure the breaker in the OFF position during maintenance work (Lockout/Tagout). The molded housing is manufactured from high-grade, flame-retardant thermoplastics that meet stringent safety standards and provide excellent insulating properties.

Application in Power Distribution

The 3VA2340-5HL32-0AA0 is intended for use as main switches, feeder switches, and motor branch circuit protectors in industrial switchboards and machine control centers.
