The DEIF PPU-3 is a high-performance paralleling and protection unit designed for generator control in marine, offshore, and land-based power generation applications. This advanced controller integrates generator protection, synchronization, load sharing, and power management functions into a single compact unit. The PPU-3 provides reliable control for single or multiple generator sets operating in island mode or in parallel with the grid.
Key Features
Generator paralleling with automatic synchronization
Load-dependent start and stop control
Comprehensive generator protection functions
Integrated power management system
Multiple communication interfaces including CAN bus and Ethernet
Backlit graphical display for local operation and monitoring
The PPU-3 provides precise generator control with automatic synchronization capabilities. The unit monitors voltage, frequency, and phase angle to ensure safe paralleling of multiple generators or connection to the grid. Synchronization parameters are configurable to match specific application requirements. The controller supports both speed and voltage control through analog outputs or digital communication with electronic governors and voltage regulators.
Comprehensive protection features ensure reliable generator operation and personnel safety:
Overcurrent and short-circuit protection (ANSI 50/51)
Reverse power protection (ANSI 32)
Overvoltage and undervoltage protection (ANSI 59/27)
Overfrequency and underfrequency protection (ANSI 81 O/U)
Loss of excitation protection
Voltage unbalance protection
Ground fault protection
All protection functions are independently configurable with adjustable time delays and trip settings, enabling precise coordination with upstream and downstream protection devices.

The PPU-3 incorporates advanced power management functionality for multi-generator installations. The controller automatically starts and stops generators based on load demand, optimizing fuel efficiency and ensuring adequate power reserve. Load sharing between parallel generators is continuously controlled to maintain balanced operation. The unit supports both isochronous and droop load sharing modes, accommodating various governor and system configurations.
The PPU-3 offers extensive communication capabilities for integration with plant control systems. Standard interfaces include CAN bus for inter-unit communication between multiple PPU controllers, enabling distributed power management without a separate master controller. Optional communication modules provide support for Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS, and other industrial protocols. The unit also features Ethernet connectivity for remote monitoring and configuration.
A backlit graphical display provides clear visualization of generator parameters, alarms, and system status. The intuitive menu structure enables easy configuration and operation. Navigation buttons allow operators to view measured values, acknowledge alarms, and perform manual control actions. The display language can be selected from multiple options, supporting international installation requirements.
