General Description

The HCIX07-TW-ND-N belongs to Honeywell's HCIX series of smart positioners, which are widely used in the process industries for precise control of pneumatic actuators. The positioner receives a command signal (4-20 mA or digital) and adjusts the air pressure to the actuator to achieve the desired valve position. It features a non-contact position sensor, microprocessor-based control, and a rugged enclosure suitable for harsh environments. The "TW-ND-N" suffix indicates specific options: TW (travel switch), ND (non-display), N (without local interface).

Functional Description

The positioner uses a microcontroller to compare the commanded position (from the input signal) with the actual position (from the sensor). It drives an I/P converter and a pneumatic relay to adjust actuator pressure. Advanced control algorithms compensate for friction and hysteresis. The device continuously monitors valve health: it can detect seat wear, packing friction changes, and supply pressure variations. Diagnostic data can be accessed via HART or fieldbus for predictive maintenance.

  • High-pressure letdown valves.

Installation and Configuration

The positioner mounts directly on the actuator (linear or rotary) using standard mounting kits (IEC 60534-6 or VDI/VDE 3845). The non-contact sensor eliminates mechanical linkage wear. Configuration can be done locally (if display is present) or remotely using Honeywell's ValVue software or any HART communicator. Auto-calibration routine automatically sets zero, span, and stroking speed.

  • SIL 2/3 capable per IEC 61508.
