Omron F210-C15 Vision Mate Controller System with F250-UM, F150-S1A, F150-KP, F150-VS Components

The Omron F210-C15 Vision Mate system is a complete machine vision solution composed of the F210-C15 controller, F250-UM memory unit, F150-S1A camera, F150-KP programming keypad, and F150-VS power supply. This system performs high-speed visual inspection, part presence verification, measurement, and pattern recognition. It is designed for integration with PLCs via parallel I/O or serial communication, making it suitable for automated production lines.

F210-C15 Vision Mate Controller

The F210-C15 is the central processing unit of the system. It features a dedicated image processor, 16MB internal memory, and a real-time operating system. The controller supports up to two F150-series cameras simultaneously. It includes 12 digital inputs (24V DC) and 14 digital outputs (PNP transistor). The outputs can signal pass/fail results, error codes, and control external devices. The controller has a built-in LCD for menu navigation and image display, as well as a 5-button keypad for local configuration. Communication: RS-232C for connection to host PC or PLC, plus parallel I/O for direct digital interface.


F250-UM Memory Unit

The F250-UM is a removable memory card that plugs into a slot on the F210-C15 controller. It provides non-volatile storage for inspection programs, scene data, and captured images. The F250-UM allows the user to transfer programs between controllers quickly, facilitate backup, and expand internal memory. It is especially useful for storing multiple product recipes (up to 128 scenes). The memory unit has a capacity of 2 MB, sufficient for hundreds of inspection templates. It is battery-free (flash memory) with data retention of 10 years.

F150-S1A Camera

The F150-S1A is a compact monochrome CCD camera designed for harsh industrial environments. Sensor: 1/3-inch interline transfer CCD with 659 x 494 pixels (effective). Resolution: 480 TV lines. Frame rate: 60 frames per second (full frame), adjustable region of interest. The camera has a C-mount lens interface, allowing use of various focal lengths (standard 12mm included). It includes a built-in LED strobe controller for external lighting. The camera connects to the F210-C15 via a shielded cable up to 10 meters. Protection: IP67 rated (with proper connector). Operating temperature: 0-45°C.

F150-KP Programming Keypad

The F150-KP is a hand-held programming keypad that connects to the F210-C15 controller via a 6-pin telephone jack. It provides a tactile keypad with numeric keys, function keys (teach, test, run), and a 2-line x 16 character LCD display. The keypad allows offline programming, parameter adjustment, and maintenance without a PC. It is used to teach inspection regions, set threshold values, and store scenes. The unit is lightweight (200g) and includes a belt clip for convenience.

F150-VS Power Supply

The F150-VS is a dedicated power supply unit designed to feed the F210-C15 controller and connected cameras. Input: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz. Output: 24V DC, 2.1A (nominal) with overcurrent and short-circuit protection. The power supply is DIN rail mountable and has a green LED indicator. It meets Class 2 requirements for limited energy. The unit also filters input line noise to comply with industrial EMC standards.

Inspection Capabilities

The system provides extensive inspection tools: pattern matching (normalized correlation), edge detection, blob analysis, OCR (optical character recognition), barcode reading (1D and 2D), measurement of gap/width/diameter, and color extraction (if using color camera, not included). The controller can store up to 32 scenes (inspection programs) internally, which can be switched by external PLC signals. The system can inspect up to 600 parts per minute depending on field of view and processing complexity.


PLC Integration

The F210-C15 communicates with a PLC using 12 discrete inputs (e.g., trigger, scene selection, reset) and 14 discrete outputs (pass, fail, error, and 2-digit result code). The outputs can be wired directly to PLC digital input cards. The RS-232C port can also be used for Modbus RTU or Omron’s proprietary protocol for more detailed data exchange (e.g., numeric measurement values). The system can also output images or statistics over serial to a PC for archiving.

Software and Setup

Configuration is performed using Omron’s Vision Setup Tool (included). The software runs on Windows and communicates via RS-232C. Users import live images, define inspection regions using drag-and-drop tools, set thresholds, and test results. The system includes a simulation mode for offline development. Programs are then downloaded to the F210-C15 controller. The F150-KP keypad allows on-the-fly adjustments of thresholds without a computer.

F210-C15 dimensions: 175 x 120 x 65 mm, weight 680g. F150-S1A: 60 x 55 x 45 mm, 200g. F150-KP: 160 x 70 x 25 mm, 200g. F150-VS: 120 x 80 x 60 mm, 500g. All components are rated for operation 0-50°C, humidity 35-85% non-condensing. The camera and controller are CE marked and RoHS compliant. The overall system is designed for panel mounting (controller and power supply) with IP20 rating, while the camera is IP67 for washdown environments.

This vision system is used for quality control in automotive parts, pharmaceutical packaging, electronic component placement, food sorting, and label inspection. The F210-C15 system is a legacy but widely deployed platform, with many spare parts available. It is often maintained for existing production lines rather than replaced due to its reliable performance and straightforward interface.
