Omron SCY-P1 SYSMAC Sequencer Controller with Selectable 220V or 110V Coil

The Omron SCY-P1 is a SYSMAC series sequencer controller designed for sequence control applications in industrial automation. It features a built-in coil that can operate at either 220V AC or 110V AC (selectable via wiring configuration). This controller provides programmable logic functions for relay replacement, timing, counting, and interlocking in machine control systems. The SCY-P1 is part of Omron’s legacy but widely used SYSMAC family, known for high reliability in harsh industrial environments.

Power Supply and Coil Specifications

The SCY-P1 is powered directly from the AC line through its internal coil. Two voltage options are field selectable: 220V AC (200-240V, 50/60Hz) or 110V AC (100-120V, 50/60Hz). The selection is made by connecting the appropriate input terminals. Power consumption is approximately 5 VA (volt-amperes). The coil is designed for continuous duty operation and includes transient suppression to protect against voltage spikes. An LED indicator on the front panel shows power-on status. The operating temperature range is -10°C to 55°C.

Input and Output Specifications

The SCY-P1 provides 4 digital inputs and 2 relay outputs. Inputs are 24V DC compatible, optically isolated, with a response time of 10ms. The outputs are dry contact relays rated at 250V AC, 5A resistive load, and 2A inductive load. The unit has a total of 6 terminals for field connections, labeled for easy wiring. All I/O points are accessible via a screw terminal block. The sequencer can be programmed using simple ladder logic with a built-in programming keypad on the front or using Omron’s programming console (optional).

Programming and Memory

The SCY-P1 stores its user program in non-volatile EEPROM memory with a capacity of 256 steps. Typical instructions include LD (load), OUT (output), AND, OR, TIM (timer), CNT (counter), and END. The unit supports up to 8 timers and 8 counters with programmable set values from 0.01 seconds to 999.9 seconds. The sequencer is programmed using mnemonic code entry via the front panel keypad or through a connected SYSMAC programming console. The EEPROM retains the program indefinitely without backup battery.

Physical Dimensions and Mounting

Dimensions: 100mm (H) x 90mm (W) x 65mm (D). Weight: approximately 400g. Mounting: 35mm DIN rail or screw fixing with mounting ears. The unit is enclosed in a flame-retardant ABS housing with IP20 protection rating. It includes a clear cover over the programming keypad to prevent accidental changes. All terminals are protected against contact with fingers. The housing color is light gray typical of SYSMAC components.

Applications

The SCY-P1 sequencer is ideal for small-scale automation tasks such as conveyor control, packaging machine interlocking, automatic door operation, light sequencing, parking gate control, and small pump stations. It replaces traditional relay panels with programmable logic, reducing wiring and increasing flexibility. The unit is also used in elevator control, washing machines (industrial), and greenhouse automation. Its simplicity makes it suitable for maintenance personnel without advanced PLC training.

Safety Features

The SCY-P1 includes a built-in watchdog timer that monitors program execution. If the program hangs, the unit automatically turns off all outputs and enters a safe state. Input filtering prevents false triggering from electrical noise. The relay outputs are isolated from the logic circuitry for 1500V AC, 1 minute. An emergency stop input can be wired to a dedicated input to shut down outputs instantly. The unit conforms to EN 61131-2 for programmable controllers.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics

Front panel LEDs indicate POWER (green), RUN (green when program running), ERROR (red), and individual I/O status. Error codes are displayed by flashing the ERROR LED a specific number of times. Common errors include program checksum failure, watchdog timeout, or output overload. A reset button clears latched errors and restarts the program. The user can also force inputs/outputs on/off for testing purposes using the programming keypad.

Wiring Instructions

Connect power to terminals L1 and N (for 110V) or L1 and L2 (for 220V) based on voltage selection. Inputs connect between COM and input terminals (X0-X3) using 24V DC supply. Outputs are dry contacts (Y0, Y1) with common terminal. Use wire gauge 12-22 AWG and tighten screws to 0.5 Nm. Separate power and signal wiring to avoid noise. Ground the terminal marked PE to panel ground. Ensure all unused inputs are tied to COM or terminal block to avoid floating signals.

Environmental and Compliance

Operating temperature: -10°C to 55°C. Storage: -20°C to 75°C. Humidity: 10-90% non-condensing. Vibration: 2g at 10-57Hz. Altitude: up to 2000m. The SCY-P1 is CE marked, UL recognized, and RoHS compliant. It meets the low voltage directive 2014/35/EU and EMC directive 2014/30/EU. The unit is not explosion-proof and should be installed in normal industrial panels only.

Conclusion

The Omron SCY-P1 sequencer controller offers a cost-effective, programmable alternative to relay logic. Its selectable 220V/110V coil and simple programming make it a versatile component for small-scale automation and legacy system maintenance.
