The SHINKAWA MP-2W2 is a precision differential expansion monitor engineered for the VM-5 series rotating machinery protection system. Designed to meet API 670 standards, this module provides real-time measurement of the relative expansion between the rotor and casing in steam turbines, gas turbines, and generators, enabling safe startup and operation under thermal transient conditions.
The MP-2W2 utilizes eddy current probe technology compatible with FK and VK series sensors, as well as LVDT transducers, to accurately track shaft position changes during thermal expansion. The module converts sensor signals into proportional DC outputs with high linearity, enabling precise monitoring of turbine casing and rotor differential expansion.
The monitor delivers measurement accuracy of ±1% of full scale at 25°C, with a configurable measurement range that adapts to the connected sensor's specifications. The module provides 4-20 mA and 1-5 V DC analog outputs, with a 4-channel relay output configurable for alert and danger alarm levels. Integrated Modbus RTU communication enables direct interface with PLC and DCS systems.
Input Sensor: FK/VK eddy current probes, CV/CA displacement sensors, LVDT
Measurement Range: Sensor-dependent (up to 50 mm)
Measurement Accuracy: ±1% FS at 25°C
Analog Outputs: 1-5 V DC, 4-20 mA (500 Ω max load)
Alarm Outputs: 4 configurable relay contacts (danger/alert)
Communication Protocol: Modbus RTU
Isolation: 2500 Vrms input-to-output isolation
Self-Diagnostics: Continuous monitoring of module fault, sensor break, and power supply

The MP-2W2 is designed for industrial environments with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 65°C and storage capability from -20°C to 85°C. The module meets IEC 60068-2-6 vibration resistance standards and is protected to IP20 rating for installation in standard control cabinets. Rack-mounting in VM-5H3 or VM-5W1 chassis is standard, with standalone mounting options available.
Front-panel LCD display with 16 characters provides real-time measurement values and alarm status visualization. Keypad controls enable parameter configuration without system shutdown, while password protection prevents unauthorized access. The module stores up to 100 alarm events for historical analysis and troubleshooting.
