Description

Woodward 5462-758  Discrete Output Module

Woodward5462-758 is a Discrete Output Module

Functional Description

5462-758 is a Discrete Output Module developed by Woodward.   The MicroNet control system is equipped deliver discrete outputs to the prime mover through its field wiring infrastructure.   This discrete output functionality, facilitated by the Discrete Output modules, represents a significant aspect of the system's capabilities, enhancing its overall control and automation prowess.   Each Discrete Output module boasts the capacity to independently manage a substantial number of outputs specifically, up to 28 outputs.   These outputs are meticulously coordinated in response to commands originating from the central CPU module, which serves as the command center of the MicroNet control system.   This orchestration of commands and responses creates a harmonious flow of control, allowing the system to regulate a diverse range of operations seamlessly.

Features

An exceptional feature of these modules is their streamlined design, free from the need for potentiometers.   This design choice is intentional, removing the complexities associated with manual adjustments.   As a result, the need for time-consuming and potentially error-prone calibration processes is entirely eliminated.   This simplicity and straightforwardness contribute to the efficiency and user-friendliness of the control system.

A noteworthy aspect that speaks to the practicality of the MicroNet control system is the module's interchangeability.   When it comes to maintenance or replacement, a module can be swapped out with another module bearing the exact same part number.   This replacement process is streamlined and hassle-free, requiring no additional adjustments or fine-tuning.   The compatibility between modules of the same part number ensures a seamless transition, minimizing downtime and operational disruptions.

Installation

The installation process of these modules presents a straightforward and systematic approach, designed to ensure proper functionality and ease of use within the control system's chassis.   This well-structured installation procedure contributes to the overall efficiency and reliability of the control system.

To initiate the installation, the modules are ingeniously designed to seamlessly slide into dedicated card guides situated within the control chassis.   Precise engineering allows for a seamless fit, aligning the modules with the designated spaces for optimal integration.   As a critical part of this process, the modules plug directly into the motherboard, establishing the necessary electrical connections to initiate communication within the system.

To secure the modules in their designated locations, a dual-screw mechanism is employed.   This consists of two screws one positioned at the top and another at the bottom of the front panel.  These screws play a pivotal role in anchoring the modules securely in place, preventing any unintended movement or dislodging during operation.   This level of stability ensures consistent and reliable performance.

A remarkable feature enhancing the ease of module manipulation is the inclusion of handles at both the top and bottom of the module.   These handles are ingeniously designed to toggle outward when pushed, initiating a controlled movement of the modules.   By toggling these handles, the modules are gently extended from their positions, disengaging the motherboard connectors with precision.   This measured disengagement simplifies the process of maintenance or replacement without compromising the overall structural integrity of the system.

The module's core functionality involves receiving digital data from the central processing unit (CPU) and subsequently generating 32 non-isolated relay driver signals.   These signals play a critical role in orchestrating various system functions and operations.   Additionally, all discrete output modules in the system are interconnected with Woodward Relay Modules.   These specialized relay modules, equipped with 16 or 32 relays each, amplify the versatility of the system.   The relays' contacts serve as a crucial bridge to the field wiring, establishing the final link between the control system and the external operational components.
