Printing display is considered to be an important technical way for China to break through the evaporation route and QD-OLED route of Korean manufacturers in the field of large-size OLED, and domestic manufacturers have high hopes to establish the advantages of large-size OLED industry through the industrialization of printed OLED as soon as possible. The reporter learned from the recently held printing display industrialization and industrial chain development technology seminar that the current printing display technology, materials, equipment and other key elements have gradually matured, and the industrialization of China's printing display is about to open.
China is already at the forefront of the world
Compared with the traditional display technology based on vacuum coating, printed display has the characteristics of low cost, flexibility, large area production and so on. It is an effective way to solve the problem of high cost and achieve large area mass production.
In the field of large-size OLED, previously LGD's steamed OLED is a dominant, Samsung display mass production QD-OLED provides more options for large-size OLED, coupled with BOE, TCL Huaxing as the representative of China's panel factory for printed OLED constantly increase, large-size OLED currently presents three relatively clear competitive paths.
The industry predicts that in the next generation of display technology, it is entirely possible for Chinese companies to find a new way through printed display, go hand in hand with Japan, South Korea and other companies in the field of printed display, and even lead the development of large-size panels.
China's printing display research and development started earlier, and panel manufacturers BOE and TCL Huaxing have become pioneers. The reporter learned that BOE has been continuously investing in printing display, and has conducted technology, process, mass production efficiency and cost comparative evaluation on the experimental line in Hefei. Boe has launched a 17-inch inkjet printing OLED display, and has released a number of printed OLED prototypes in recent years.
In January 2022, relying on BOE Construction, the National Engineering Research Center for New Display became the first national engineering laboratory in the display industry, focusing on the deep cultivation and upgrading of TFT-LCD, covering and promoting technology research in major new display fields such as flexible AMOLED, printed OLED, MLED and QLED. The center broke through key printing OLED technologies such as large-area uniform printing, display driver and printed display integration, and took the lead in launching 55-inch 8K printing OLED display. And developed a large-size electroluminescent QLED display technology with independent intellectual property rights, developed the world's first full inkjet printing process to prepare 5-inch, 14-inch QLED display prototype.
In 2014, TCL Huaxing set up an internal brush display research and development department, and also established Guangdong Juhua Printing Display Technology Co., Ltd. with Tianma, CLP Panda and other panel companies to tackle printing display technology, and began to develop printing flexible OLED technology in 2019 and successfully displayed samples. In 2020, TCL Huaxing invested in JOLED for technical reserve, and has made progress in mass production technology. In 2021, TCL Huaxing announced that it intends to demonstrate the construction of an 8.5-generation flexible winding OLED panel production line (t8) with a monthly processing capacity of about 60,000 pieces. In response to investor questions in February 2022, TCL Technology pointed out that the company is constantly improving the layout and capacity building in the field of new display technologies such as printed OLED through self-research and strategic investment to speed up mass production.
The reporter learned from TCL Huaxing that a number of its world's first new printed OLED technology, Including 17-inch Foldable IJP-OLED, 31-inch 4K IJP-OLED MNT, world's first 31-inch 4K Rollable IJP-OLED MNT, world's first 65-inch 8K IJP-OLED TV, Product life fully reach the level of similar foreign output goods.
Zheng Yushan, director of the industry Research Department of the LCD Branch of the China Optical Electronics Industry Association, judged that China's printing display technology and the world's advanced technology keep pace, and may lead in the future.
Industry standards have begun to be developed
"Five years ago, we organized a seminar on printing and display technology, and there were less than 20 participants. We are very pleased to see that the number of participants in the seminar has reached more than 150 people, and more than 80 participants from upstream and downstream." Yan Xiaolin, CTO of TCL Technology and CTO of TCL Huaxing, said at the printing display industrialization and industrial chain development technology seminar.
At present, there are more and more enterprises and scientific research institutions in China to join the printing display research and development. In addition to TCL Huaxing, BOE two leading panel companies actively participated and made great progress, Tianma, Vicinot and other panel factories are also very concerned about the development of printing display technology.
