Infrastructure is an important support for economic and social development. What are the important changes in China's infrastructure development in the past ten years? The integration of traditional and new infrastructure is accelerating

Zheng Jian, director of the Infrastructure Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that in the past ten years, the overall level of China's infrastructure has been improved by leaps and bounds, and development experience in line with the actual conditions and requirements of The Times has been gradually formed in practice and exploration.

"China has made historic achievements in the development of transportation, energy, water conservancy and new infrastructure. The construction of a modern comprehensive three-dimensional transportation system and a modern energy system has been accelerated, and the overall level of infrastructure has improved by leaps and bounds, strongly supporting and safeguarding economic and social development." Zheng Jian said that the level of infrastructure engineering construction and technological innovation in China has continued to progress, the integration of traditional and new infrastructure has accelerated, and the establishment of a unified open and orderly competitive market system in the field of infrastructure has accelerated.

According to reports, by the end of 2021, the total mileage of China's comprehensive transportation network will exceed 6 million kilometers, the total length of 220 kV and above transmission lines will reach 843,000 kilometers, the total length of optical cable lines will reach 54.81 million kilometers, respectively equivalent to 1.3 times, 1.7 times and 3.7 times of 10 years ago, and the total storage capacity of reservoirs will reach 903.5 billion cubic meters. The scale of high-speed rail, expressways, power grids and 4G networks has long been ranked first in the world.

In addition, China's modern infrastructure network system is constantly improving, the layout is more reasonable, and the proportion of high-standard and high-quality infrastructure is constantly increasing. More than 95 percent of cities with a population of more than one million are covered by high-speed railways; more than 98 percent of cities with a population of more than 200,000 are covered by expressways; and about 92 percent of prefecture-level cities are covered by civil transport airports. All established villages have access to hard-wired roads, broadband and direct postal services. The penetration rate of 4G and 5G users reached about 87 percent.

New infrastructure enables economic and social development

The new infrastructure is an important part of the modern infrastructure system, and is an important support for implementing the innovation-driven development strategy and promoting high-quality economic and social development. Zhang Zhihua said that smart facilities are entering thousands of industries, and the national industrial Internet network, platform, security and logo analysis system has been basically completed; The development of integrated infrastructure such as telemedicine and smart elderly care has been accelerated, which has effectively improved the facilitation of people's lives.

He said that in the next step, we will strengthen overall planning, guide telecom operators to coordinate the layout of 5G and optical fiber network construction, and improve the national computing network layout; We will increase support for new infrastructure construction and increase the enthusiasm of private capital to participate in investment. We will continue to implement the project to improve basic networks in small and medium-sized cities in the central and western regions, bridge the digital divide, and accelerate research in key core technologies in key areas. We will clarify the priorities for the layout and order of new infrastructure construction, and give priority to supporting the construction of new infrastructure that meets the urgent needs of the people and plays a prominent role in driving the real economy.
