Solve the worldwide problem of recycling and utilization of paper and pulping wastewater

Focusing on the major needs of traditional industrial transformation, water resources, energy and other fields and the major scientific problems of membrane separation technology, the special separation membrane team of Chemical engineering and Technology Department of Nanjing University of Technology insists on carrying out original basic research, developing subversive technologies and implementing major engineering applications, and completing the research of ceramic membrane and molecular sieve membrane from basic to industrialization. It has realized the leapfrog development from tracking research to original innovation, and formed a strong influence at home and abroad. Over the years, the team has taken serving the country and the economic and social development of Jiangsu as its own responsibility, practiced internal skills, strengthened basic research and innovation source power, increasingly prominent key technology transformation ability, and gained rapid momentum in serving society. Such a team has been quietly contributing to the economic and social development of the country.

Just five years ago, the pulping wastewater from Nantong's largest paper company by investment to date was planned to drain more than 100 kilometers of pipeline into the sea, where Qidong fishermen have traditionally relied on fishing grounds for generations. The paper company promised that the pulp wastewater was treated by the enterprise and then discharged into the sea, but the wastewater treatment standard was stricter than the world standard, which was a world problem at that time! The pipeline project promised by the paper enterprise fell into the center of the vortex of public opinion overnight, and also made this big project with billions of investment ill-fated.

At the critical moment, academician Xu Nanping's team volunteered to lead more than 40 R&D personnel from the Institute of Membrane Science of Nanjing University of Technology to take over the topic of "reclaimed water reuse" in Nantong.

"In fact, for our team, we do not want to take this job, if the project is ruined, our entire team will be wasted, but our team leader Xu Nanping academician gave us a requirement, we are two national R & D platforms, these problems are not solved by the national platform, who will solve them?" Project implementer, vice president of Nanjing University of Technology, film science and technology Institute director Professor Xing Weihong said.

After one year and four months, the team, through repeated scientific analysis and demonstration, proposed to take membrane integration technology as the core, and comprehensively utilize the main components of the tail water, so as to develop the membrane pulping and papermaking wastewater zero discharge technology package, and built the world's first 40,000 tons/day pulping and papermaking wastewater zero discharge demonstration project. The process through the ozone biofilm pretreatment, membrane integration and efficient evaporation crystallization and other sections, the pulping wastewater "eat dry pressed" into fully recyclable pure water, industrial salt and dry mud, to achieve zero discharge and full reuse of water. The project investment costs and operating costs are less than 50% of the original sea drainage project, has been stable operation for more than three years, can reduce the total amount of chemical oxygen consumption of about 1,000 tons per year, reduce the total amount of wastewater discharge of about 13 million tons, recover tens of thousands of tons of industrial salt products, purified water more than 12 million tons. In 2015, Xinhua reported the research results of the project, and in 2016, it was selected as a representative achievement in the field of environmental protection and exhibited at the national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" scientific and technological Innovation Achievement Exhibition.

With national research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Materials Chemical Engineering and the National Special Separation Membrane Engineering Technology Research Center, focusing on the major needs in the fields of water resources, energy, environment, and upgrading of traditional industries, It is engaged in the development of high-performance membrane materials such as inorganic ceramic membrane, pervaporation membrane, gas separation membrane, organic membrane, organic inorganic composite membrane, and the development of membrane integration technology and complete sets of equipment such as membrane reactor, wastewater recycling, tail gas purification, etc., which belongs to the strategic emerging industry supported by the State.

The Institute has always adhered to the market orientation of technological innovation, adhering to the development concept of "close to science and engineering", and built a five-part innovation system of "talent training, scientific research, service to society, base construction and industry cultivation", carrying out original basic research, developing disruptive technologies, and creating major engineering applications. 5, PVDF ultrafiltration membrane and products, mainly used in paper, coal mine, chemical, metallurgy, mining and other industries of water reuse projects, as well as power plants, waterworks, desalination pretreatment and other industries of water purification projects.

6, high-performance composite nanofiltration membrane and products, mainly used for material separation and water treatment of nanofiltration engineering and water purification equipment.
