HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH+Co KG (Black Horse) is a global leader in the field of functional safety. HIMax Power Electronic System (PES), as one of its flagship products, is known for restoring normal operation (NONSTOP) and high safety defects. The X-AO 16 01 analog output module is the core I/O module of the HIMax system, designed specifically for safety related control applications.
This article will provide a detailed introduction to the technical specifications, safety features, and application of the X-AO 16 01 module in the HIMax system
1. Core security functions and authentication
The outstanding feature of the X-AO 16 01 module is its highest safety level certified by T Ü V, ensuring extremely high reliability in industrial process control and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
1.1 Safety Level (SIL)
This module has obtained T Ü V certification and is suitable for safety related applications. The safety level meets the following standards:
Security Threat Level (SIL): up to SIL 3 (according to IEC 61508, IEC 61511, and IEC 62061).
Performance level (PL): Cat. 4 and PL e (according to EN ISO 13849-1).
The safety function of the module is achieved by using an additional safety switch for each pair of channels. When a fault occurs, the switch will be disconnected to ensure safety.
1.2 Fault response mechanism
X-AO 16 01 follows the principle of "power-off tripping" (power-off tripping principle).
Module failure: If the safety related memory system of the module detects a module failure during operation, the module will enter a safe state within a maximum of 16 milliseconds (ms).
Channel failure: If a channel failure occurs, both channels of the travel channel group will be closed.
Diagnosis: The Error LED on the front board of the module will be activated, indicating the occurrence of a fault.

2. Product Structure and Technical Specifications (Product Data)
The X-AO 16 01 module can be inserted into any I/O slot on the HIMax motherboard, but the slots reserved for the system tray module.
2.1 Analog output characteristics
Number of channels: Single channel connection: 16, forming pairs of channels (such as AO1 and AO2) with a common ground potential.
Number of channels: Drive connections: 8 (AO1, AO3... AO15), only odd outputs are used when driving connections.
Rated engineering quantity: 4... 20 mA (milliampere), suitable for connecting resistive, inductive, capacitive loads and lighting fixtures.
Operating range, 0... 23 milliamps
Digital resolution, 16 bits (10000 bits in SILworX)
Maximum resistive load: 600 Ω (ohms)
Fault shutdown time: 16 milliseconds (milliseconds), it takes time to transition to a safe state
Measurement accuracy (25 ° C): ≤± 0.2% final value
2.2 Module General Data
Supply voltage: 24 VDC (-15%...+20%)
Maximum current input: 1.3 A
Protection type: IP20
Working temperature: 0...+60 ° C
Dimensions (height x width x depth): 310 x 29.2 x 230 millimeters
3. Hardware connection and configuration
The X-AO 16 01 module and connector board together form a functional unit.
3.1 Available connection board models
The module does not include connection boards and system cables, they need to be ordered separately. HIMA provides four main connection board models for this module:
X-CB 014 01: Single channel connection board with terminal blocks suitable for non signal wiring and traditional wiring methods.
X-CB 014 02: Joint connection board with terminals is suitable for signal wiring and only uses odd numbered channels.
X-CB 014 03: Single channel connection board with cable plug suitable for connecting field terminal assemblies (FTA) using system cable X-CA 011.
X-CB 014 04: Rotor connection board with cable plug
The modules and connection boards are matched through mechanical coding to prevent incorrect installation of I/O modules.
3.2 Width (LED indicator light)
The LED on the front of the module is divided into three groups to indicate the operating status:
Status module: (green/running status) Run, Error (red/internal fault), Stop (yellow), Init (yellow).
System route lane: and (green/yellow) AB, indicating the physical and logical connection status with the bus system bus module.
I/O channels: (/channel active status) Channel 1... 16, Field (red/fault occurs, such as open circuit, overcurrent).
3.3 Software Configuration
The installation, startup, and configuration information of the module are included in the manual. This module needs to be configured using the SILworX programming tool in the HIMax system. Only I/O modules correctly configured in SILworX can enter the RUN state.
4. Extended function: HART communication
The X-AO 16 01 analog module output supports HART communication function. When HART communication is enabled, the measurement accuracy of the module is ≤± 2% of the final value, which provides flexibility in applications that require both safety control and asset management.
