Pro face GP2000 series (GP-2400/2500/2600) human-machine interface: a complete engineering guide from installation, debugging to troubleshooting

Introduction: The Continuous Value of Classic HMI

In the field of industrial automation, the Pro face GP2000 series (including GP-2400, GP-2500, GP-2600) was once the benchmark product for medium to large human-machine interfaces. Despite the launch of more advanced models in the future, a large number of active equipment are still operating stably in production lines, packaging machinery, CNC machine tools, and other fields. For maintenance engineers, mastering the hardware specifications, installation points, offline settings, and common troubleshooting methods of the GP2000 series is a key skill to ensure production continuity.

This article is based on the GP2000 series user manual and extracts practical knowledge of the entire process from unboxing inspection to backlight replacement. It helps engineers quickly locate issues such as "screen failure", "inability to connect to PLC", "CF card read/write failure", and provides systematic maintenance recommendations.


Model Identification and Hardware Specification Quick Check

The GP2000 series consists of three sub series, with main differences in display screen size, resolution, and backlight type. Quickly identifying the model is crucial for selecting accessories.

Key electrical parameters:

DC24V power supply model (suffix -24V): Input voltage range DC19.2V~28.8V, power consumption GP‑2400T ≤28W,GP‑2500/2600 ≤50W。

AC100V power supply model (TC11 and revision<3): rated AC100V, actual AC85-132V, power consumption ≤ 50VA.

AC100-240V wide range model (TC11 revision ≥ 3): rated AC100-240V, actual AC85-265V, power consumption ≤ 85VA at 240V.

Allowable instantaneous power outage time: 10ms for DC power supply model, 20ms for AC power supply model.

Insulation withstand voltage: DC power supply model AC1000V/1min, AC power supply model AC1500V/1min.

Environment and Structure:

The working temperature is 0-50 ℃, the storage temperature is -20-60 ℃, and the humidity is 10% -90% RH (without condensation).

Front panel protection level: equivalent to IP65f/NEMA 4X/12 (only when the front panel is tightly fitted with gaskets).

Vibration resistance: Complies with IEC61131-2.

Installation panel thickness: 1.6-10mm, recommended to use installation fasteners (GP070-AT01).


Installation and wiring: key steps determining long-term reliability

1. Inspection and installation of installation gaskets

The installation of gaskets (PS400-WP00-MS for GP-2400, GP570-WP10-MS for GP-2500/2600) is the core of achieving IP65 protection. Before installation, it is essential to:

Place the GP screen facing downwards on a flat surface and check if the gasket is fully embedded in its groove.

Gasket joints should not be placed in corners, only in straight sections, otherwise they are prone to tearing under long-term stress.

The surface of the gasket should be about 2mm higher than the groove. It needs to be replaced if it has been used for more than a year or if scratches or dirt appear.

2. Panel perforation and installation

Drill holes according to the dimensions specified in section 2.5.4 of the manual (GP-2400 approximately 215 × 170mm, GP-2500/2600 approximately 317 × 243mm).

Push GP into the front panel and secure it from the back using installation fasteners. Each GP should use at least 4 fasteners (GP-2500/2600 can accommodate up to 10).

The torque required to tighten the screws is only 0.5 N · m, excessive torque can damage the casing.

When the panel tilt angle exceeds 30 °, the upper limit of ambient temperature drops to 40 ° C, and forced air cooling may be required.

3. Power wiring (highest risk link)

Absolutely prohibit live wiring. The external power supply must be disconnected before wiring.

Use crimped ring terminals (with an inner diameter of approximately 3.2mm), and the exposed part of the terminal must be covered with an insulating sheath to prevent short circuits after loosening.

Wiring sequence: First connect the FG (ground) terminal, then connect the L (or+) and N (or -).

FG must be grounded separately, with a grounding resistance of ≤ 100 Ω and a wire cross-sectional area of ≥ 2mm ². Do not share grounding with other devices as it may cause common mode interference.

It is recommended to install a surge absorber (varistor) on the incoming side of the power supply, and its maximum circuit voltage should be greater than the peak voltage of the power supply.

4. Serial communication wiring (COM1/COM2)

COM1:25 pin female holder, supporting RS-232C or RS-422. If RS-422 is used, the following pins must be short circuited accordingly:
