1. Magnetostriction principle: the technical core of non-contact measurement
The core competitiveness of Temposonics sensors lies in their unique magnetostrictive measurement principle. This process cleverly combines the physical properties of magnetic field and ultrasound:
Interaction between waveguide and magnetic field: The core of the sensor is a ferromagnetic measuring element (waveguide). When a current pulse (interrogation pulse) passes through a waveguide, a radial magnetic field is generated around it.
Generation of strain pulse: The radial magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field of the external movable position magnet, exciting a mechanical strain pulse in the waveguide.
Accurate time measurement: The pulse is transmitted at a constant ultrasonic velocity towards the end of the waveguide and converted into an electronic signal. By accurately calculating the time difference between the interrogation pulse and the return pulse, the sensor can lock the exact coordinates of the position magnet in real time.
This non-contact working method completely eliminates mechanical wear and ensures that the sensor does not need to be recalibrated during decades of operation, reflecting the high reliability concept of "can be ignored after integration".
2. R series product family: modular design for diverse scenarios
The R series is not a single product, but a highly modular system designed to adapt to various applications ranging from narrow spaces to extreme lengths of tens of thousands of meters.
2.1 RP (Profile) and RH (Rod) Standard Types
RP type (profile type): specially designed for external installation. The sensor is fixed on the surface of the machine through a bracket, and the position magnet (slider type or U-shaped magnet) slides above the profile with the moving parts. Its measuring range can reach up to 5000 millimeters.
RH type (hydraulic rod type): specially designed for built-in hydraulic cylinders. Its pressure resistant stainless steel flange and sensing rod can withstand extremely high fluid pressure, with a maximum stroke of 7600 millimeters. The unique modular and detachable design allows for direct replacement of the sensor electronic compartment without damaging the hydraulic seal, greatly reducing maintenance costs.
2.2 RD4 (Detached) electronic separation type
RD4 adopts a fully modular design of mechanical and electronic components, separating the sensing rod from the processing electronic equipment. This structure is particularly suitable for situations where there are strict limitations on the sensor head space or where electronic parts need to be kept away from high temperature/strong vibration environments.
2.3 RS (Super Shield) Super Protection Type
The RS type has a sealed housing made entirely of stainless steel, with a protection level of IP68/IP69K. It can effectively resist corrosion, mud and high-pressure water flushing, making it an ideal choice for measuring linear positions in heavy industry, marine engineering or chemical environments.
2.4 RF (Flexible) Flexible Rod Type
For the requirement of ultra long travel, the RF series provides a flexible rod solution that can be bent. Its measuring length can extend from 100 millimeters to an astonishing 20000 millimeters. Flexible design not only facilitates layout in limited space, but also significantly reduces the transportation cost of ultra long sensors.

3. Diversified communication protocols: seamless integration of industrial Internet
The R series sensors support almost all mainstream industrial communication standards, ensuring seamless integration with control systems
Analog: Provides 0... 10 VDC or 4... 20 mA output, suitable for traditional control circuits.
SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface): Provides high-speed synchronous data transmission for real-time control, with a resolution of up to 0.5 μ m.
Fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet: covering CANbus, Profibus DP, EtherCAT, Profinet, etc.
Multi magnet measurement: Some digital protocols, such as EtherCAT or Profibus, support tracking up to 20 position magnets simultaneously on a single sensor, enabling multi-point displacement monitoring.
4. Excellent performance parameters
The Temposonics R series has become an industry benchmark due to its almost stringent precision performance
Resolution: up to 0.5 μ m.
Linearity: better than 0.01% of full scale (F.S.).
Repetitive accuracy: Achieve 0.001% F.S.
Durability: It has strong resistance to impact (100 g) and vibration (15 g), with a working temperature range covering -40 ° C to+100 ° C.
5. Cross industry applications: from precision injection molding to deep-sea exploration
The footprint of R series sensors covers the most challenging engineering projects worldwide:
Industrial machinery: injection molding machines, steel rolling mills, beverage filling lines, and packaging equipment, utilizing their high precision to achieve process optimization.
Large scale infrastructure: played a key role in the construction of the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark and the mobile structure of the Aufen Stadium in Germany.
Special mission: even assisted in salvaging the sunken Russian submarine "Kursk".
Energy and liquid level control: By integrating magnets into the buoy, the R series can be transformed into highly accurate liquid level gauges and can simultaneously measure interface layers (such as oil-water interfaces).
