The LUST LTI Drives CDA34.017.C2.CP is a servo controller from the CDA34 series. It is rated in the 7.5 kW power class and is intended for machine axes that require substantial torque together with accurate speed and position regulation. The C2.CP configuration defines the interface and functional option set. The controller is designed for cabinet mounting and can operate inside multi-axis architectures with a shared DC bus.
Within the CDA34 family, the 017 model covers the upper middle power range. A 7.5 kW rating allows the controller to drive servo motors used in heavy feed axes, main spindle functions, and high inertia loads. The higher current capability also supports rapid acceleration of large masses, which is common in handling and forming equipment. Because the unit uses the same control platform as lower power models in the series, parameter structures and commissioning procedures remain consistent across the machine.
The controller implements three cascaded control loops. The innermost current loop regulates motor current with a short cycle time, producing fast torque response. The velocity loop stabilises speed against load disturbances. The position loop, supplied with feedback from the motor or an external encoder, ensures that the axis reaches the commanded position within the specified tolerance. Users can operate in torque mode for tension control, velocity mode for simple drives, or position mode for coordinated motion.
The CDA34.017.C2.CP accepts resolver signals, incremental encoder signals, and absolute encoder signals, depending on the configured option. High resolution absolute feedback improves positioning accuracy and reduces homing requirements. Dual feedback configurations allow an external encoder to be used for direct load measurement while the motor feedback handles commutation. Temperature sensors embedded in the motor winding are evaluated by the controller to protect the motor from thermal overload.
The power stage converts DC bus voltage into a controlled three phase current for the motor. Protection circuitry monitors current, voltage, and temperature continuously. In multi-axis systems, the DC bus is often shared with other drives and with a braking module, which allows braking energy from one axis to be absorbed by another axis that is accelerating.
Digital inputs accept enable, reset, limit switch, and reference signals. Digital outputs report ready status, fault state, and brake control. Analog inputs allow an external speed or torque reference to be applied. Depending on the CP option, a fieldbus connection may be available for cyclic data exchange with a higher level controller.
Protection features include overcurrent limiting, short circuit detection, ground fault monitoring, DC bus overvoltage and undervoltage supervision, and heatsink overtemperature monitoring. Motor overload protection is calculated from the current profile and the thermal model stored in the parameters. When a fault is triggered, the drive disables the output stage, signals the fault, and stores the event in the fault history.
Commissioning begins with setting the motor data and feedback configuration. The drive then performs an identification routine that measures electrical characteristics and estimates control loop gains. Fine tuning follows, using step response or frequency response tools in the engineering software. Trace functions allow current, speed, and position signals to be recorded and analysed. Once satisfied, the parameter set is saved and can be transferred to other drives of the same configuration.
In machines with several axes, the controller can be mounted beside other CDA34 drives and connected to a common DC bus. A power supply module provides the bus voltage, and a braking module handles excess regenerative energy. Communication between drives and the machine controller allows coordinated motion, cam functions, and electronic gearing.
Typical uses include packaging lines, printing presses, textile machinery, plastic processing equipment, and metal forming machines. Feed axes in high speed production lines benefit from the fast current loop and accurate positioning. Winding and unwinding stations use torque control to maintain constant tension.
The controller should be mounted vertically with clearance above and below for airflow. Motor cables must be shielded and the shield bonded to the cabinet ground at both ends. Signal cables should be routed away from power cables. Cooling air must be free of conductive dust and corrosive gases.
Routine maintenance includes checking fan operation, cleaning air paths, and verifying terminal tightness. Parameter backups should be stored outside the drive so that replacement units can be commissioned quickly. Fault history review supports preventive maintenance by revealing recurring overload or overvoltage events.
Selection requires calculating the continuous and peak current demand of the motor and load, confirming the DC bus voltage class, and checking that the feedback interface matches the motor. The C2.CP option must be verified against the required communication and input output functions.
The LUST LTI Drives CDA34.017.C2.CP is a 7.5 kW servo controller that combines precise closed loop control with a robust power stage and flexible interfaces. Its design supports use in multi-axis machines with shared DC bus architecture. Correct selection and commissioning enable accurate and efficient motion in demanding industrial applications.
