The DEIF DRW-2 is a specialized protective relay engineered to address one of the most common risks in parallel generator operation: reverse power. In a synchronized power system, if a generator's prime mover—such as a diesel engine or gas turbine—fails to provide sufficient mechanical energy, the generator will begin to draw power from the busbar. This effectively turns the generator into a synchronous motor, which can cause severe mechanical damage to the engine and lead to a total system blackout. The DRW-2 provides a robust defense against this scenario by continuously monitoring the phase angle and magnitude of the current relative to the voltage, detecting the precise moment the power flow reverses.

High-Integrity Sensing and Logic Circuitry

At the heart of the DRW-2 is a sophisticated analog-to-digital sensing circuit designed for high-resolution measurement. Industrial and marine environments are prone to harmonic distortion and frequency fluctuations; the DRW-2 utilizes active filtering to isolate the fundamental power frequency, ensuring that tripping decisions are based on accurate data. The relay features independent adjustments for the trip level (the percentage of rated power at which the relay activates) and a time delay.
