Honeywell T901-P Terminal Block Assembly for Series 8 I/O

The Honeywell T901-P is a termination assembly designed for use with Series 8 I/O modules in the Experion 8 distributed control system. As part of the IOTA (Input Output Termination Assembly) family, the T901-P provides the interface between field wiring and the I/O module, enabling efficient installation, maintenance, and system configuration. The assembly features detachable terminals that simplify wiring during plant construction and allow for rapid module replacement without disturbing field connections.

Key Features

  • Two-level detachable terminals for field wiring termination

  • Supports redundant I/O module configurations

  • Integrated field power distribution

  • Eliminates need for separate marshalling panels

  • Compatible with coated and uncoated I/O modules

  • Simplifies installation and maintenance procedures

Design and Construction

The T901-P termination assembly is engineered to complement the Series 8 I/O module design. It mounts vertically within the system cabinet, allowing field wiring to enter from the top or bottom based on installation requirements. The two-level terminal design provides organized termination points with clear labeling for channel identification. This vertical orientation, combined with the detachable terminal feature, significantly reduces installation time compared to traditional marshalling panel approaches.

Integration with I/O Modules

The T901-P serves as the mounting base for Series 8 I/O modules. The I/O module plugs directly into the termination assembly, establishing all necessary electrical connections without requiring individual wire terminations per module. This plug-and-play architecture enables rapid module replacement in the event of failure or during system upgrades. When modules are replaced, field wiring remains undisturbed, minimizing downtime and reducing the potential for wiring errors.

Redundancy Support

A key feature of the T901-P is its ability to support redundant I/O module configurations. The termination assembly is designed to accept two I/O modules in a primary-standby arrangement. Redundancy is accomplished directly on the IOTA without external cabling or additional control devices. When two modules are installed, the termination assembly manages the interface to field wiring, ensuring seamless switchover in the event of a primary module failure.

Field Power Distribution

The T901-P incorporates field power distribution capabilities, simplifying the power supply architecture for field devices. Field power is supplied through the IOTA, eliminating the need for extra power supplies and the associated craft-wired marshalling. This integrated approach reduces cabinet space requirements and lowers overall system cost while maintaining reliable power delivery to field instruments.

Wiring and Installation

The detachable terminal design provides significant advantages during system installation. Terminals can be removed from the assembly, wired on a workbench, and then snapped back into place. This approach reduces field wiring time and improves wiring quality compared to traditional terminal blocks. The terminals are clearly labeled with channel assignments and functional designations, minimizing the potential for wiring errors.

Coating Options

The T901-P termination assembly is available in both coated and uncoated versions to match the I/O module specification. Coated assemblies incorporate conformal coating on the printed circuit board, providing protection against moisture, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes. Coated versions are recommended when the electronics must withstand harsh environmental conditions or when additional protection is required for long-term reliability.

Applications

The T901-P termination assembly is used across all industries served by the Experion 8 Series distributed control system:

  • Chemical processing plants

  • Oil and gas production facilities

  • Refineries and petrochemical complexes

  • Power generation stations

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing

  • Pulp and paper mills

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

The termination assembly design simplifies maintenance procedures. Status indicators provide visual feedback on field power and module communication. The detachable terminal feature allows individual channels to be isolated for troubleshooting without disturbing adjacent wiring. When modules are replaced, the termination assembly remains in place, preserving all field connections and reducing the risk of miswiring during component replacement.

Compatibility

The T901-P termination assembly is compatible with the full range of Series 8 I/O modules, including analog input modules such as the 8C-PAINA1, analog output modules, digital input modules, digital output modules, and specialized function modules. This consistent termination architecture allows system designers to mix module types within a single installation while maintaining uniform wiring practices.

Standards and Certifications

The T901-P is designed and manufactured in accordance with Honeywell quality standards. It complies with applicable industrial control equipment standards and is certified for use in hazardous locations when used with appropriately rated I/O modules and installed according to system documentation.
