Lauer 19557-D4 Text Display
The Lauer 19557-D4 is a robust alphanumeric text display designed for industrial environments where clear status information and simple operator interaction are required. It features a high-contrast LCD with adjustable backlight, a membrane keypad with programmable function keys, and versatile serial communication options (RS232/RS485). This terminal is ideal for small machines, conveyor systems, and process monitoring applications where graphical HMIs are unnecessary.

Functional Features
The display can store up to 255 user-defined messages, each with embedded numeric or string variables that update via serial communication. It supports scrolling text for longer messages, blinking for attention, and inverse video for emphasis. The keypad can be customized to trigger specific machine functions such as start, stop, reset, or parameter adjustments.
Communication uses a simple ASCII protocol or Modbus RTU, ensuring easy integration with most PLCs and controllers. The unit also includes a setup menu for configuring baud rate, parity, and data format. Optional real-time clock enables timestamping of events, and the internal memory can log up to 100 alarm events.
Configuration is performed using a PC-based tool via the serial port, allowing quick message table and key assignment updates.
Installation Guidelines
Mount the display in a panel cutout using the supplied gasket and clips. Connect the 24 V DC power supply with a 0.5 A fuse. For RS485, use shielded twisted-pair cable with 120 Ω termination resistors at both ends. For RS232, use a standard null-modem cable. Set communication parameters (baud rate, parity, stop bits) via DIP switches on the rear panel. Download the configuration using a programming cable connected to the RS232 port.
Ensure the sealing gasket is properly seated to maintain IP65 protection. Avoid installing near strong electromagnetic fields or heat sources.
Operating Conditions
This terminal is designed for indoor industrial use with ambient temperatures ranging from 0 to 50 °C. Relative humidity should be below 90% non-condensing. Vibration tolerance is 0.3 g (10–150 Hz) and shock up to 5 g (11 ms). The LED backlight has a typical half-life of 30,000 hours at 25 °C.
Applications
Typical applications include packaging machines, conveyor control systems, temperature monitoring stations, batch counters, and pump control panels. It is also used as a remote display for weighing systems and flow meters.
Compliance and Certifications
CE marked, UL recognized, and RoHS compliant. Meets EN 61000-6-2 (immunity) and EN 61000-6-3 (emission) standards.
Ordering Variants
Available with different backlight colors (amber, blue, green), with or without RS485 interface, and with custom keypad legends. Extended temperature range option available.
