Lauer LCA 640.1 Operator Terminal
The Lauer LCA 640.1 (version 640.000.0) is a compact and cost-effective operator terminal designed for basic control and monitoring tasks in industrial environments. It features a 4-line alphanumeric display with limited graphic capabilities, a membrane keypad, and reliable serial communication. This terminal is an excellent choice for small machines, simple processes, and retrofit projects where a full graphical HMI is not required but clear operator feedback is essential.

Functional Features
The LCA 640.1 can display up to 255 user-defined messages, each with embedded variables (numeric or string) updated via serial communication. It supports scrolling text, blinking, and inverse video. The keypad can be configured to trigger specific functions like start, stop, reset, or parameter change. Communication uses a simple ASCII protocol or Modbus RTU, making integration with PLCs straightforward.
The terminal includes a setup menu for configuring baud rate, parity, and message polling. It can also log up to 100 alarm events with timestamps if the RTC option is fitted. The graphic mode allows for simple bar charts to indicate fill levels or analog values.
Installation Guidelines
Mount the terminal in a panel cutout with the supplied gasket and clips. Connect the 24 V DC power with a 0.5 A fuse. For RS485, use shielded twisted-pair cable with termination. For RS232, use a standard null-modem cable. Set the communication parameters via DIP switches on the rear panel. Download the message configuration via the RS232 port using a PC tool.
Ensure the sealing gasket is intact to maintain IP65 protection. Keep the terminal away from strong electromagnetic fields.
Operating Conditions
Indoor use, 0–50 °C, humidity<90%. Vibration 0.3 g (10–150 Hz), shock 5 g (11 ms). Backlight life 30,000 hours.
Applications
Small packaging machines, conveyor systems, temperature controllers, pump stations, and simple batch counters. Also used as a remote display for weigh scales and flow meters.
Compliance
CE certified, UL recognized, RoHS compliant.
Ordering Variants
Available with different backlight colors (amber, blue), with RS485 interface, and with extended temperature range. Custom keypad legends can be ordered.
