In the field of industrial assembly, the Power Focus series controller is the core brain of Atlas Copco electric tightening system. The latest generation Power Focus 3000 offers two hardware versions, Compact and Graph, combined with Tensor S/ST/SL series tools, to achieve high-precision torque and angle control. However, improper installation of controllers, poor grounding, or incorrect parameter settings are often the main reasons for on-site shutdowns. System composition and hardware version identification
The Power Focus 3000 is a complete control and monitoring unit that, in conjunction with electric assembly tools, forms a "ready to use" tightening system. The standard system consists of four main parts:
The main difference between the Power Focus controller (Compact or Graph version) lies in the user interface (Graph comes with a color screen and soft buttons) and external dimensions (Compact weighs 12kg, Graph weighs 16kg).
RBU (Fast Backup Unit) is used to implement different functional levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, X, DS), determining the tightening strategies and data management capabilities that the system can support.
Tool cables (various models and lengths).
Tensor S/ST/SL tools (with different torque ranges and configurations).
Before installation, it is essential to verify the compatibility between the controller model and the tool model - Tensor S4/S7 tools must correspond to control cards with the same S code, otherwise they will not function properly.
Key points of mechanical installation
2.1 Fixed method
The controller is fixed to the wall or steel plate with four M6 screws. If installed on the wall, a suitable wall bracket (including expansion plugs and screws) must be used. If installed on a steel plate, the thickness of the steel plate must not be less than 2mm, otherwise resonance may cause poor contact of the internal board.
2.2 Unpacking and Wiring Sequence
When opening the lid, it should be slowly opened forward to avoid damaging the hinge or internal wiring. The wiring sequence strictly follows:
Connect the tool cable (pay attention to the asymmetric positioning of the 19 pin connector, the long plastic pin must be aligned and inserted, and after locking the nut, push and pull to check for displacement).
Connect the RBU module.
Connect the power cable (with built-in automatic voltage sensing function, supporting 90-120VAC or 180-240VAC, 50-60Hz).
Connect external I/O, relays, serial ports, printers, etc. (optional).
Close the controller and lock it, then turn on the main power supply.
2.3 Mandatory Grounding Requirements
This device must be reliably grounded! The cross-sectional area of the grounding wire shall not be less than 2.5mm ² and shall be independently connected to the system grounding point. Especially when welding operations are carried out simultaneously on site, the workpiece must be grounded separately to prevent the welding circuit current from returning through the Power Focus grounding wire, causing damage to the internal circuit.
Electrical Safety Core: Ground Fault Protection (GFI)
The Power Focus 3000 is equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Breaker (GFI) to detect small leakage currents (>10mA) and cut off power within 30ms, protecting the operator from electric shock.
3.1 GFI Key Warning
It is strictly prohibited to use isolation transformers for power supply, otherwise it will suppress the detection function of GFI.
The GFI test button is located on the rear panel and should be pressed at least once a month for functional testing - the GFI should immediately trip upon pressing.
If GFI trips during actual operation, the root cause of the leakage must be identified first (such as tool cable damage, motor moisture, decreased insulation of the circuit), and can only be reset and restarted after elimination. Forcefully closing the circuit is strictly prohibited.
3.2 Selection of Power Supply and Fuses

The most powerful and convenient feature of the Power Focus 3000 is Autoset, which automatically optimizes control parameters through the actual tightening process. The operation is extremely simple, but it needs to be executed correctly.
