In the process of moving towards smart factories, digitalization and flexibility of assembly lines have become core demands. The Power Focus 8 (PF8) family launched by Atlas Copco, as a new generation of tightening control platform, takes the concept of Virtual Station as the core, cooperates with powerful hardware ecology and software functions, and provides accurate matching capability levels for tightening applications of different complexity. This article combines the official product manual to systematically sort out the hardware composition, virtual station level classification, functional expansion options, multi axis application configuration, and service ecology of the PF8 family from the perspective of engineering selection, helping engineers quickly build intelligent assembly solutions suitable for their own production lines.
PF8 Family Hardware Overview: Controllers, Drivers, and Intelligent Modules
The Power Focus 8 family includes three major hardware cores:
Power Focus 8 Controller: A universal main controller that supports connecting up to 20 tools (including battery tools, wired tools, and fixed tools), compatible with 15 tool families, providing Wi Fi expansion and lower infrastructure costs, a unified and optimized user interface, and seamless integration with software ecosystems.
Power Focus S drive unit: independent drive, can be used as a secondary controller for PF8, especially suitable for fixed and multi axis applications. Provide standard (1-phase) and high-voltage (3-phase) versions, with energy consumption 50% lower than the controller, and equipped with LED status indicators for easy maintenance and troubleshooting.
Intelligent Application Module (IAM): A pluggable storage unit that includes dual partition dedicated memory for upgrading, backup, and recovery. All software, tightened data, and configurations are stored centrally for quick backup and version switching.
In addition, PF8 also offers a high voltage version (HV), supporting 3-phase 380-480V power supply, fully compatible with the electrical framework of the original PowerMACs 4000 fixed controller, and supporting all models of the QST series (from QST34 to QST210), achieving seamless transition for fixed applications.
Virtual Station - Decider of Function Level
The virtual station is the core software authorization unit of the PF8 platform, which determines the types of tools, functional scope, protocol support, and data reporting capabilities supported by the controller. Different levels correspond to different application scenarios, and users can choose virtual sites with electronic or physical delivery (1/2/5/10 sets) as needed.
