The SST SST-PFB-CLX is a PROFIBUS DP master module designed for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programmable logic controllers. This module installs directly into a ControlLogix chassis, providing the ControlLogix processor with the ability to communicate with PROFIBUS slave devices such as drives, I/O systems, and instrumentation.
The SST-PFB-CLX operates as a PROFIBUS DP Class 1 master, managing up to 125 PROFIBUS slave devices on the network. It handles all cyclic data exchange with slave devices, automatically transferring input data to the ControlLogix processor and output data from the processor to the slave devices. The module also supports DP-V1 acyclic services for parameterization and diagnostics of intelligent slave devices.
The module is configured using RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 software, appearing as a standard ControlLogix module in the I/O configuration. Data exchange between the module and the ControlLogix processor occurs through the backplane, with input and output data mapped directly to controller tags. This seamless integration allows the ControlLogix program to access PROFIBUS I/O data as easily as local I/O points.
Module Type: PROFIBUS DP master module
Compatible Platform: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
Supported Baud Rates: 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps
Maximum Slave Devices: 125 PROFIBUS slaves
I/O Data Capacity: Up to 2048 bytes input, 2048 bytes output
DP-V1 Support: Acyclic data exchange services
Configuration: RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000
Module Status: Front panel LEDs for power, network, and module status

Configuration is accomplished by importing GSD files for PROFIBUS slave devices and selecting the desired modules and parameters. The module provides comprehensive diagnostic information through the ControlLogix backplane, including network status, slave device status, and detailed fault information. This diagnostic data is accessible to the ControlLogix program for alarm handling and troubleshooting.
The SST-PFB-CLX is widely used in manufacturing and process industries where PROFIBUS devices are deployed, enabling ControlLogix systems to serve as controllers for PROFIBUS-based machinery and equipment. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring integration of PROFIBUS drives, remote I/O, and instrumentation into Allen-Bradley control systems.
