"Biomass power generation is the use of these wastes as fuel, the use of centralized processing of modern equipment, to achieve the control of various emissions, continuous energy conversion, for power generation or heating." Zhanjiang biomass power generation company party secretary, executive director, general manager Huang Cong said.

In this way, the ancient biomass radiates fresh vitality under modern equipment, and becomes a major help to the ecological environment of Suici. According to reports, since the beginning of this year, the air environment of Suixi County has been monitored for 138 days, of which 137 days are excellent, and the excellent and good rate is 99.3%, and the ambient air quality is excellent and stable.

Huang Cong introduced that the biomass power generation project is mainly connected with the processing plants in Zhanjiang and the surrounding areas to purchase bark, leaves, tree heads, bagasse, fruit shells, straw and other agricultural and forestry wastes, which are purchased from the processing plant and then transported to the power plant. The annual purchase fund reaches 300 million yuan, realizing industry feeding agriculture, driving villagers to achieve employment at their doorstep, and promoting the sustainable development of local society.

Established in September 2008, Zhanjiang Biomass Power Generation Company belongs to Guangdong Energy Group Co., LTD. The power generation project is a key construction project in Guangdong Province, with an installed capacity of 2×50MW biomass generator set, which started construction in March 2010, and two units were completed and put into operation in August 2011 and November 2011 respectively, which is the world's largest single capacity and total installed capacity of biomass power plant built at that time.

According to reports, as of the end of June 2022, Zhanjiang Biomass Power Generation Company has sent a total of 6.827 billion degrees of green electricity to the Internet, consumed about 10.2561 million tons of agricultural and forestry waste, saved a total of 3.075 million tons of standard coal, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 4.2416 million tons. Greatly reduce the pollution of groundwater caused by natural decay of biomass fuel and the atmospheric pollution caused by farmers' on-site incineration of agricultural and forestry waste.

Emission reduction and carbon fixation enable green energy development

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Agriculture and rural carbon emission reduction and sequestration implementation Plan" pointed out that according to local conditions to promote the application of biomass energy, solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and other green energy models, increase the supply of clean energy in rural areas. We will promote the substitution of renewable energy for heating, cooking, agricultural production and processing in rural areas, and strengthen energy efficiency.

The industry generally believes that biomass energy is the only energy in the world with carbon reduction, carbon negative and carbon neutral functions; It is the only renewable carbon source, or a clean energy with natural energy storage characteristics, and has great potential for high-quality agricultural development and carbon emission reduction and sequestration.

Huang Cong introduced that compared with traditional coal-fired power generation, biomass power generation uses biomass such as agricultural and forestry waste as fuel, which has little impact on the atmospheric environment. Compared with coal, the sulfur content of biomass fuel is extremely low, almost zero. Therefore, in the process of emission to the atmosphere, the sulfur dioxide content of the power plant is almost zero, and the nitrogen oxide is also stably controlled within 200mg/m3, which is about 100 under normal circumstances, far better than the emission standard. "The carbon dioxide emitted by living organisms when they burn is roughly equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorbed by photosynthesis when they grow, so biomass power generation produces zero emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide."

Based on the situation that there are small boilers for self-heating and gas supply in surrounding enterprises, at present, Zhanjiang Biomass Development Company relies on its own green energy advantages and the demand for heat and steam of enterprises in Bainipo Industrial Park of Suixi County to plan the construction of park heating projects and accelerate the construction of heating pipe network.

According to reports, through the use of clean green energy heating, compared with the user's self-built boiler heating, can save a lot of coal, and correspondingly reduce a lot of soot, sulfur dioxide, nitride emissions, in order to achieve economic and ecological win-win. After the current heating network is completed and operated, the steam demand of enterprises in the initial project park is about 50t/h, and the annual heating hour is estimated by 3000h and the low heat value of standard coal is 29307.6kJ/kg, which can save 3405 tons of standard coal every year.

In the hot land of Suixi, an experiment to explore innovative carbon reduction and carbon sequestration is being carried out - microalgae carbon sequestration technology. At present, Zhanjiang Biomass Power Generation Company is carrying out the construction of micro-algae carbon sequestration demonstration project covering an area of 2000 square meters, and will build the largest micro-algae direct fixed power plant flue gas carbon dioxide demonstration project in the province to achieve negative carbon emission effect, and carry out diversified applications after completion.

The so-called microalgae carbon sequestration is a kind of carbon dioxide bioutilization technology, which refers to the use of efficient photosynthesis of microalgae to convert carbon dioxide into the corresponding biomass resources. As carbon sequestration organisms, microalgae have the advantages of high photosynthetic rate, rapid reproduction, and strong adaptability to the environment, which is equivalent to 10-50 times the carbon sequestration capacity of forests, and can grow in a variety of water environments such as fresh water, oceans, saline-alkali lakes and industrial and agricultural wastewater. Generally, the normal growth of microalgae can fix about 1.8 tons of carbon dioxide per 1 ton of biomass raw materials, and the output per unit area can reach 25 tons/ha/year when microalgae is cultivated in scale, and the fixed absorption efficiency of carbon dioxide can reach 50 tons/ha/year.

According to reports, the technology is an economically viable, environmentally friendly and sustainable carbon dioxide fixation technology. Aiming at the flue gas carbon dioxide emitted by power plants, a large-scale microalgae carbon sequestration engineering technology system was constructed by combining efficient carbon sequestration algae seed, efficient and low-cost photobioreactor. process control technology and disease prevention technology.

Step by step to increase the project promotion

In recent years, Zhanjiang has adhered to the concept of integrated development of industrialization, ecology and digitalization, made efforts to ecology, improved green and low-carbon policies, and green, energy-saving and low-carbon lifestyle. At the end of last year, Zhanjiang held the 22nd meeting of the Municipal Committee for Comprehensively Deepening Reform, proposing to actively participate in the construction of a new power system with new energy as the main body, promote the development and transformation and upgrading of clean and low-carbon energy, accelerate the completion and production of key clean energy projects, and promote the cleanliness of industrial electricity use.

Among them, 7 centralized photovoltaic power generation projects have been built in Suixi County, with a total installed capacity of 280MW. Five centralized photovoltaic power generation projects are under construction, with an installed capacity of 322MW, and four centralized photovoltaic power generation projects are planned and promoted, with an installed capacity of 520MW. In 2021, Suixi County is listed by the state as the whole county roof distributed development pilot, at present, Suixi County has built a total of 405 distributed photovoltaic power generation projects, with a total installed capacity of about 25MW, mainly for industrial and commercial plant distributed photovoltaic power generation projects, rural poverty alleviation distributed photovoltaic power generation projects and residential roof distributed photovoltaic projects.

The relevant person in charge said that the next will actively follow up the construction of Suixi County energy projects, increase project promotion efforts, improve energy self-supply capacity, cope with the summer peak electricity consumption, promote the addition of wind power projects and regulations, and achieve zero breakthrough in Suixi County wind power projects.

What kind of spark will be rubbed out by the fusion of biomass and photovoltaic power generation? As early as 10 years ago, Zhanjiang biomass power generation project began to try photovoltaic new energy power generation, making full use of the large area of the plant fuel shed and other buildings roof construction of photovoltaic power generation, the company built 1MW solar photovoltaic power generation phase I, put into production in August 2012; The second phase of the 2.74MW photovoltaic power generation project was officially put into commercial operation on November 24, 2016, driving high-quality economic development with a green engine.

Where will the development of biomass energy go in the future? Keeping up with the pace of The Times, the "14th Five-Year Plan for Renewable Energy Development" was recently officially released, drawing a blueprint for biomass energy development. The plan points out that, optimize the development layout of biomass power generation, orderly develop agricultural and forestry biomass power generation and biogas power generation, explore the development potential and demonstration research of the combination of biomass power generation and carbon capture, utilization and storage, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of biomass power generation to cogeneration according to local conditions, carry out market-oriented demonstration of biomass power generation, and restore the environmental value of biomass power generation.

Huang Cong said that the income from the development of biomass energy comes from the subsidy of electricity prices, and the company is also actively exploring green electricity trading, establishing a carbon trading research team, and greater mining the value of biomass energy.
