Serial Port Console redirection: It can redirect BIOS startup information to the COM port for easy debugging of non display terminals (select VT-UTF8 terminal type).

3. Chipset

System Agent (SA) Configuration: VT-d is enabled by default (supports I/O virtualization). In Graphics Configuration, it is recommended to set the DVMT Pre Located to 64MB (if using high-resolution display) and keep the GTT Size at 2MB. The Graphics Turbo IMON Current can adjust the upper limit of the graphics Turbo mode current, which can be set by default.

4. Boot

Quiet Boot: Turn off to display detailed POST self-test information for easy fault location.

Boot Option priorities: Supports booting from multiple devices such as SATA HDD, CFast, USB, and network (PCIe). If the system starts from CFast, ensure that CFast takes priority over other devices.

Fast Boot: It is not recommended to enable it as it may skip USB initialization and result in the inability to enter BIOS by pressing Del.

5. Security

Administrator password and user password can be set. If you forget your password, you need to use the motherboard JP1 jumper to clear the CMOS (short circuit 2-3 pins and restore to 1-2 pins). Attention: JP2 is used to clear the ME RTC register. Do not operate it for non RMA level faults, otherwise it may cause AMT exceptions.

6. Exit

Save changes and restart, or restore defaults. Additionally, a Launch EFI Shell is provided for firmware updates or diagnostics.

Watchdog (WDT) Programming and System Self Recovery

The MXE-5300 has a built-in hardware watchdog that can automatically reset the system when the operating system or application hangs, greatly improving the reliability of unmanned operation. The appendix of the manual provides the C/C++function library (WDT. h/WDT. lib), with the following main interfaces:

InitWDT(): initialize the watchdog, which must be called before other functions.

SetWDT (BYTE tick, BYTE unit): Set timeout value, tick range 1-255, unit is 0 (seconds) or 1 (minutes). For example, SetWDT (60,0) means a timeout of 60 seconds.

StartWDT(): Start count, timeout triggers hardware reset.

ResetWDT(): Reset the counter before timeout, usually called periodically in the main loop of the application (e.g. every 30 seconds).

StopWDT(): Stop the timer (called before the system shuts down normally).

In actual deployment, it is recommended to write an independent monitoring process, feed the dog regularly, and record the timestamp of the last feeding to facilitate post analysis of the cause of the crash. If the application encounters a deadlock, the watchdog will force a cold start after timeout to ensure that the device "self heals".

Driver installation sequence and precautions

The official provides Windows 7/XP and Windows Vista drivers (included on DVD). The installation sequence must be strictly followed:

Chipset driver (prior to all drivers, ensuring PCIe, SATA, USB recognition is normal)

Graphics card driver (Intel HD Graphics 3000)

Network card driver (Realtek 8111C and Intel 82574/82579 need to be installed separately)

Audio Driver (Realtek ALC269)

WDT driver (providing user mode access interface)

If using Linux (Ubuntu, etc.), it is necessary to manually load kernel modules such as mei and e1000e, and pay attention to the SATA AHCI support of the QM67 chipset. For RTOS (such as VxWorks), it is recommended to contact ADLINK for BSP support.

Common fault phenomena and troubleshooting strategies

Possible causes and solutions for the fault phenomenon

There is no response when powered on, the power light is not on, the DC input is disconnected or the polarity is reversed. Use a multimeter to measure the V+and V - voltages, and check if the terminal screws are tightened

The power light is on but there is no display. The diagnostic LED is flashing. The memory is not properly plugged in or incompatible. Reinstall SO-DIMM, clean the golden finger, and try single boot

The diagnostic LED is constantly on without any storage devices (HDD/SSD/CFast). At least one storage medium should be installed and set as the boot disk

The system repeatedly restarts (resets a few seconds after startup), and the watchdog timeout or CPU overheating enters the BIOS to shut down the watchdog. Check the contact of the heat sink and fan (if installed)

COM port cannot communicate due to incorrect mode settings or incorrect line sequence. Confirm the RS-232/422/485 mode in BIOS and verify the DB9 pin definition

The network is not connected, the Link light is not on, the network cable is damaged or the port is disabled, and a wire replacement test is conducted to ensure that the corresponding network card is enabled in the BIOS

Timed startup (RTC wake-up) does not work. RTC battery is depleted. Replace the BR2032 battery on the motherboard and reset the BIOS time

Maintenance cycle and long-term stability recommendations

Every six months: Clean the dust accumulation on the heat sink (compressed air can be used), and check all external cable connectors for oxidation or looseness.

Every year: Verify the watchdog function (manually stop feeding the dog and observe if it can be reset), and check the remaining lifespan of the CFast card (if S.M.A.R.T. is supported).
