Chapter 1: Unpacking Inspection and Mechanical Installation
1.1 Model identification and unboxing inspection
The MXE-5500 series offers three models, with the core difference being the processor:
MXE-5501: Intel Core i7-6820EQ (quad core eight thread, 2.8GHz, turbo 3.5GHz)
MXE-5502: Intel Core i5-6440EQ (quad core four thread, 2.7GHz, turbo 3.4GHz)
MXE-5503: Intel Core i3-6100E (dual core quad threading, 2.7GHz)
Package contents: MXE-5500 host, wall bracket (accessory box), wall and hard drive fixing screw kit, quick start guide. If any damaged cardboard boxes are found during transportation, immediately contact the distributor.
1.2 Mechanical dimensions and key points for wall mounted installation
The external dimensions of MXE-5500 are 230mm (width) × 204mm (depth) × 90mm (height), and the weight is about 4kg. When installing on the wall, attention should be paid to:
Remove the 4 plastic foot pads at the bottom and the side screws.
Fix the two wall brackets to the chassis with 6 M4 screws.
Key Warning: The manual specifically states that 'To maintain structural integrity, the device should not be wall mounted with the rear panel on the bottom.' It is prohibited to wall mount the rear panel in a downward direction to avoid affecting structural strength and heat dissipation.
1.3 Requirements for heat dissipation spacing
The CPU and PCH heat source components of MXE-5500 are located at the top of the system and directly contact the heat dissipation fins through thermal pads. To ensure the efficiency of natural convection heat dissipation, at least 2 inches (5cm) of clearance should be left at the top. Wide temperature models (-20 ° C to 60/70 ° C) need to be used with industrial grade SSDs or CFast cards.
Chapter 2: Internal Module Installation - Hard Disk, CFast, and Mini PCIe
2.1 Installation of 2.5-inch SATA hard drive/SSD
The MXE-5500 offers two front hot swappable hard drive racks (HDD Fast Plug Trays) that support SATA-III (6.0Gb/s):
Manually unscrew the thumb screw of the right hard drive bracket and remove the bracket.
Place the 2.5-inch HDD or SSD into the bracket and secure it with 4 M3 screws.
Slide the bracket back into the slot until the SATA connector is fully engaged, then unscrew the thumb screw.
Repeat the steps to install the left hard drive.
Attention: If using HDD (mechanical hard disk), the vibration tolerance is 0.5Grms; If SSD is used, the vibration tolerance can be increased to 5Grms, and industrial grade SSD must be selected for wide temperature applications.
2.2 CFast card installation
The system rear panel provides CFast Type II slots (push push), supporting SATA-III (6.0Gb/s):
Unscrew the 2 screws on the CFast compartment cover and remove the cover plate.
Insert the CFast card in the direction of the guide rail until it is fully seated.
Reinstall the cover plate and secure the screws.
2.3 Installation of Mini PCIe Module and USIM Card
The MXE-5500 provides two mini PCIe slots and corresponding USIM sockets, supporting WiFi/BT/3G/4G modules:
Remove the top cover by unscrewing the 6 border screws and 4 edge screws (a total of 10 screws).
Insert the mini PCIe module into the corresponding slot at an angle of approximately 30 °, press down to level, and secure with 2 M2.5 × L5 screws.
Insert the SIM card into the USIM card slot (with the contacts facing downwards and the missing corners facing outwards).
Reinstall the top cover and secure all screws.
2.4 Internal Expansion Interface
The motherboard provides GPS module power interface (+3.3V and+5V, maximum 1A), clearing CMOS jumper (short circuit Pin2-Pin3 to restore factory settings), and external power/reset/LED extension pin (can be connected to remote control panel).
