Weight and installation dimensions

The weight of 1.4 kg allows a single person to complete the installation. The external dimensions are 240 × 144 × 50 mm, with an opening size of 211 × 138 mm. It is fixed with 4 M4 screws and suitable for installation in standard control panel or cabin wall openings. The compact thickness (50 mm) makes it easy to embed and install without taking up too much space.


Environmental adaptability and protective design

The challenges of electronic equipment in ship environments mainly come from temperature fluctuations, humidity, salt spray, vibration, and electromagnetic interference. WCU LED addresses these challenges through the following design:

Wide temperature component selection: All electronic components are selected from industrial or automotive grade to ensure stable operation within the range of -15 ° C to+70 ° C.

Moisture proof treatment: The PCB board is coated with three proof paint to prevent condensation and short circuits; The wiring terminals are made of corrosion-resistant materials.

Sealing structure: A sealing gasket may be installed between the front panel and the rear shell to prevent water droplets from seeping in and meet IP22 requirements.

Anti vibration design: Internal components are fixed with glue or reinforced welding, and connectors are equipped with locking mechanisms to prevent vibration loosening.

IEC 60945 also specifies requirements for radiated emission, conducted emission, and immunity to interference, ensuring that the equipment does not interfere with other electronic devices on board and can withstand electromagnetic interference from radar, radio transmitters, and other sources.

WCU LED has received type approval from major global classification societies, including:

These certifications indicate that the product design, manufacturing, and testing comply with the regulatory requirements of various classification societies and can be directly installed on classified ships without additional inspection. As part of the K-Chief system, the certification scope means that WCU LED has passed integration testing with the Kongsberg automation system as a whole, ensuring compatibility and reliability with the system.


Application field

WCU LED control units are widely used in various types of ship automation systems, with typical applications including:

Cabin monitoring and alarm system: As a local alarm indicator panel, it displays the operating status and alarm signals of equipment such as the main engine, generator, and auxiliary engines. The LED indicator lights can display normal, warning, alarm and other statuses respectively, and the operator can confirm or reset the alarm through the buttons on the panel.

Lighting and ventilation control: In living areas or work cabins, WCU LED can serve as a local control panel for lighting or fans, starting and stopping equipment through buttons, and using LED to indicate the current status.

Liquid level and temperature monitoring: Connect liquid level sensors or temperature sensors to display real-time tank liquid level or key temperature values (if with digital display), and issue sound and light alarms when exceeding the limit.

Valve remote control: In cargo oil systems or ballast water systems, WCU LED can be used to control the opening and closing of valves, and indicate valve position (open/closed/faulty) through LED.

Security system interface: linked with fire detection system and combustible gas detection system, providing local alarm indication in hazardous areas.

Due to the fact that WCU LED only consumes 5 W of power and has a wide voltage input, it can be directly powered by a 24 VDC battery pack. Even if the main power supply loses power, it can still rely on emergency power to continue working, ensuring that critical monitoring functions are not interrupted.


Installation and Maintenance Guide

Proper installation and regular maintenance are key to ensuring the long-term reliable operation of WCU LEDs. The following recommendations are based on product specifications and industry best practices:

Installation location selection: It should be selected in a dry, non direct spray, and non violent impact location, avoiding installation near heat sources (such as steam pipelines) or enclosed spaces with poor ventilation. Ensure that there is sufficient space around the device for wiring and heat dissipation.

Drilling and fixing: Drill holes on the control panel or cabin wall according to the opening size of 211 × 138 mm, embed the equipment and fix it with 4 M4 stainless steel screws to prevent corrosion. The tightening torque of screws should follow the manufacturer's recommended value (usually around 1.2 Nm) to avoid deformation of the housing caused by over tightening.
