MOVIDRIVE ® MDX60B/61B UL Compliance Detailed Explanation
1.1 Requirements for on-site wiring power terminals
According to UL standards, the wiring of frequency converter power terminals must use copper wires with specified temperature ratings:
MDX60B/61B 0005-0300 model: only uses 60/75 ° C copper wire
MDX60B/61B 0370-2500 model: only uses 75 ° C copper wire
The tightening torque of the terminals is strictly graded according to size to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical connections:
Size code torque (in lbs) torque (Nm)
0XS, 0S, 0L 5 0.6
1, 2S 5 0.6
2 13 1.5
3 31 3.5
4, 5 120 14
6 180 20
7 200 23
1.2 Short circuit current rating (SCCR)
The MDX60B/61B series is suitable for circuits that can provide symmetrical amperes up to 200000 rms, provided that fuse or circuit breaker protection is configured according to the table below. When using ABB or Rockwell Automation's Type E combination motor controller for protection, the SCCR is 65000 rms symmetrical amperes.
400/500V unit: maximum voltage limit is 500V
230V unit (model 0015-0300): maximum voltage limit is 240V
1.3 Branch Circuit Protection
Important note: The built-in solid-state short-circuit protection in the frequency converter cannot replace branch circuit protection. Branch circuit protection must be provided in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any local additional regulations.
Selection of branch protection for 400/500V units (excerpt)
The following is an example of protection configuration for a typical model:
MOVIDRIVE model non semiconductor fuse (maximum) inverse time circuit breaker Type E combination controller (ABB) Type E combination controller (Rockwell)

Special attention: When using Type E combination motor controllers such as MS132-12, -16, -20, -25, -32, etc., ABB's S803W-SCLxxx-SR current limiter must be used, otherwise the SCCR rating will be reduced to 30kA/480Vrms.

1.4 Motor overload protection
The MDX60B/61B series frequency converter is equipped with overload protection function that is sensitive to load and speed, and has thermal memory retention function in case of shutdown or power failure. Adjust the trip current to 150% of the rated current of the motor.
1.5 Environmental temperature and derating
The frequency converter is suitable for ambient temperatures up to 40 ° C. If it exceeds 40 ° C, it needs to be downgraded for use, with a maximum allowable temperature of 60 ° C. The derating rules are as follows:
Between 40 ° C and 50 ° C: For every 1 ° C increase, the output current decreases by 2.5%
Between 50 ° C and 60 ° C: For every 1 ° C increase, the output current decreases by 3.0%
1.6 External 24V power supply and IT system limitations
The external DC 24V power supply must use units with tested limited output voltage (Umax=DC 30V) and limited output current (Imax=8A).
UL certification does not apply to power supply systems with ungrounded star points (IT systems).
