Product Introduction

The LAUER SYSTEME PCS‑900 is a high‑end operator panel designed for complex human‑machine interface tasks in process and manufacturing automation. It combines a large, high‑brightness TFT display with a powerful embedded controller, providing superior visualization capabilities for supervisory control, batch management, and equipment monitoring. The unit is built for 24/7 operation in harsh industrial settings, with a robust die‑cast aluminum housing and a sealed front bezel.

Display and Touch Technology

The PCS‑900 features a 15‑inch XGA (1024 x 768) color TFT LCD with an LED backlight, delivering 450 cd/m² brightness and a contrast ratio of 700:1. The display offers wide viewing angles (85° in all directions) and is optically bonded to an analog resistive touchscreen (optional multi‑touch capacitive available). The touchscreen is durable and can be operated with gloves or a stylus. An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the backlight to maintain optimal readability in changing ambient conditions.

Powered by an Intel Atom E3845 quad‑core processor (1.91 GHz) with 4 GB of DDR3L RAM (soldered) and 8 GB of eMMC flash for the operating system and application storage. An additional SD card slot supports up to 32 GB for data logging or screen backup. The panel runs Windows Embedded Standard 7 or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise (factory configured), and includes a hardware watchdog and a real‑time clock with a supercapacitor backup (50 days typical).

Software and Development Environment

The development environment – ProVisIT Studio – allows screen design, tag database creation, and communication driver configuration. It includes a built‑in simulator for offline testing. Installation and Wiring

Install the panel by cutting the specified opening in the control cabinet, inserting the unit, and tightening the four clamping brackets (torque 1.2 Nm) to achieve the IP66 seal. Connect the 24 V DC power supply (terminal block, 2‑pin, 18‑36 V input) with a 2 A fuse in the supply line. Connect Ethernet cables to the two ports for network redundancy or for separating control and IT networks. For serial connections, use shielded cables and keep the length under 15 m for RS‑232 and under 1200 m for RS‑485. After wiring, power on the panel; the system will boot into Windows and automatically launch the ProVisIT runtime. The touchscreen calibration is performed during initial setup via the control panel utility.

Diagnostics and Maintenance

The panel provides a diagnostic menu accessible via a key combination at boot‑up. This menu displays hardware status (temperature, voltage, fan speed) and offers a memory test. The unit also logs system events (power cycles, errors, and runtime) into a non‑volatile log. Regular maintenance involves cleaning the touchscreen with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol, and checking the rear ventilation for dust blockage. The internal CMOS battery (BR2032) should be replaced every 5 years; this requires opening the rear cover – service should be performed by authorized personnel. In case of a system crash, a hardware reset button is available on the rear panel. For firmware updates, download the update image from the LAUER support site and apply via a USB drive.

Accessories and Ordering

The PCS‑900 is available with either an analog resistive or capacitive touchscreen. Other options include a stainless steel front bezel, a 32 GB storage upgrade, and extended temperature range (‑10 °C to 55 °C). When ordering, specify the part number PCS‑900‑R (resistive) or PCS‑900‑C (capacitive), along with the required fieldbus module.
