Lauer PCS807 Profibus-DP Module PX 807.101.5BM

General Description

The Lauer PCS807 (model PX 807.101.5BM, reference 050500) is a dedicated Profibus‑DP communication module that enables LAUER operator panels and controllers to participate in Profibus networks as slaves. This compact plug‑in module provides a galvanically isolated RS‑485 interface, supports all standard baud rates up to 12 Mbit/s, and offers flexible I/O data mapping. It is an essential component for integrating LAUER HMI devices into distributed automation systems based on the Profibus fieldbus.

Hardware Features

The module is built around the Siemens SPC3 protocol chip, ensuring full compatibility with DP‑V0 and DP‑V1 services. It features a 9‑pin D‑sub connector for the bus cable, with a built‑in termination switch (ON/OFF) for easy network configuration. The transceiver is optically isolated to 1.5 kV, providing robust noise immunity. An onboard EEPROM stores configuration data (slave address, I/O mapping, and diagnostic parameters). The module draws its power (5 V DC) from the host panel via the internal connector, requiring less than 200 mA.

Data Exchange and Configuration

The PCS807 supports configurable I/O lengths up to 244 bytes input and 244 bytes output, which are assigned to the panel’s internal variables via the LAUER configuration software. The user defines a mapping table that links Profibus slots (byte offsets) to specific registers or bit flags in the panel. This mapping is stored in the module’s EEPROM and is retained after power‑off. For DP‑V1, acyclic read/write services allow access to diagnostic data and parameterization without interrupting cyclic communication.

Diagnostic and Status Indicators

  • Green LED (RUN): Steady on when communication with the master is established.

  • Red LED (ERR): Flashes to indicate configuration error, bus timeout, or address conflict.

  • Yellow LED (BUS): Blinks with data traffic on the bus.

  • Diagnostic Buffer: Stores the last 20 bus events (errors, warnings, status changes) for analysis.

  • Watchdog Timer: Monitors the cyclic data exchange; if communication is lost for >100 ms, the module sets outputs to a pre‑defined safe state (configurable).

  • Weight: 75 g

  • Protection Class: IP20 (when mounted inside panel)

  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 55 °C

Installation Procedure

Before installation, ensure the host panel is powered off. Locate the fieldbus expansion slot on the rear of the LAUER panel (typically marked “Slot B” or “Fieldbus”). Remove the protective cover and insert the PCS807 module, aligning the pin header. Secure it with the two retaining screws. Connect the Profibus cable to the 9‑pin D‑sub connector. Use a standard Profibus cable (purple, twisted‑pair) with a metal connector shell. Set the termination switch: if the module is at the end of the bus segment, set to “ON”; otherwise, set to “OFF”. Set the slave address (1‑125) using the rotary switch on the module. After mounting, power on the panel – the green LED should illuminate. If the red LED flashes, check the bus wiring and the master configuration.

Integration with Profibus Master

To integrate the PCS807, import the provided GSD file (LAUER_807.GSD) into the master PLC’s engineering tool (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7, or any other DP master tool). The GSD file defines the module as a standard DP slave with configurable I/O modules. Select the appropriate I/O length (e.g., 8 bytes in/out, 16 bytes in/out) to match the panel’s variable mapping. Assign the same slave address as set on the rotary switch. Download the new configuration to the master and switch to RUN. The module will establish cyclic communication with the master; data exchange is now active. Use the diagnostic LED and the master’s diagnostic buffer to verify proper operation.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

The PCS807 is maintenance‑free. Periodically check the bus cable and connector for tightness. Common faults: “No Bus Activity” – verify cable continuity and termination; “Config Mismatch” – ensure the GSD file and I/O length selection correspond to the mapping defined in the panel; “Address Conflict” – change the rotary switch to a unique address. The module’s diagnostic buffer can be read via the host panel’s service menu (under “Fieldbus Status”). If the module becomes unresponsive, power cycle the host panel. If the red LED remains on, replace the module with an identical unit – no configuration changes are needed if the address and mapping remain the same.

Compatibility and Variants

The PCS807 is compatible with all LAUER PCS panels (800 and 900 series) and LCA controllers that have the expansion slot. The part number PX 807.101.5BM (050500) is the standard version with a standard temperature range. Variants include higher isolation (2.5 kV) and extended temperature range (‑20 °C to 70 °C). When ordering, specify the exact part number and any special requirements.
