The Prosoft PLX32-EIP-SIE is a compact, DIN-rail mountable gateway that provides bi-directional data transfer between Ethernet/IP networks (used by Rockwell Automation and other vendors) and Siemens S7 PLCs using the ISO-over-TCP (RFC1006) protocol. This allows mixed automation environments to share data seamlessly without complex programming or hardware changes.
Protocol 1: Ethernet/IP (Adapter/Server or Scanner/Client)
Protocol 2: Siemens S7 ISO-on-TCP (RFC1006)
Ethernet Interface: 2 × 10/100Base-T, switch ports (auto-MDI/MDIX)
Data Capacity: Up to 5000 words (10,000 bytes) per direction
Ethernet/IP Connections: Up to 16 CIP connections (Class 1 and Class 3)
S7 Connections: Up to 8 simultaneous connections to S7-300/400/1200/1500
Configuration: Web browser (HTTP) or Prosoft Configuration Builder
Data Mapping: User-configurable via CSV import/export or graphical tool
Diagnostics: Built-in web server with real-time data monitoring, protocol statistics, and event log
Power Supply: 10-30 V DC (24 V DC nominal)
Power Consumption: 3 W typical
Operating Temperature: -20°C to +70°C
Protection Rating: IP20
Dimensions: 127 × 87 × 30 mm
Mounting: DIN rail (35 mm)

The PLX32-EIP-SIE can be configured as either an Ethernet/IP adapter (slave) or scanner (master) on one side, and as an S7 client on the other. Data is exchanged by reading and writing from S7 data blocks (DBs) and mapping them to Ethernet/IP tags. The gateway supports data conversion (scaling, byte-swapping, bit packing) to accommodate differences between the two protocols. A built-in web server allows real-time monitoring of data values and diagnostics.
Configuration is performed via a user-friendly web interface that includes step-by-step wizards for setting up both protocols. The gateway also supports remote firmware updates and backup/restore of configuration files. Prosoft provides a free configuration utility (Prosoft Configuration Builder) for advanced users. The device logs communication errors and events, which can be accessed via the web interface or sent to a syslog server.
This gateway is ideal for mixed architecture plants where Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix controllers need to exchange data with Siemens S7 PLCs. Typical applications include automotive manufacturing, food and beverage, and material handling systems where different OEM machines use different PLC brands. It also serves as a data concentrator for SCADA systems that need to poll both Ethernet/IP and S7 devices.
