The Kollmorgen SERVOSTAR J-06 is a digital brushless servo drive from Danaher Motion, designed to provide precise motion control for industrial automation applications. This servo drive combines advanced control technology with a compact housing package, offering simple commissioning and reliable operation. The SERVOSTAR J-06 is part of Kollmorgen's family of servo drives engineered for use with a wide range of rotary and linear three-phase brushless servo motors.
The SERVOSTAR J-06 comes default with resolver feedback for robust position and velocity sensing in harsh industrial environments. The drive also offers options for encoder or sine encoder feedback to accommodate various application requirements. It provides an encoder equivalent output as feedback to the controller, enabling seamless integration with higher-level control systems.
The drive incorporates sophisticated analog input processing capabilities. It utilizes Dual Gain technology with two 14-bit A/D inputs to read user-supplied analog signals. One input directly reads the ±10 V signal, while the other incorporates a 2x gain term. When the input voltage is below 4 V, the 2x channel is used, extending the resolution to a 15-bit equivalent. Above 4 V, the system uses the straight 14-bit conversion. Special software algorithms minimize cross-over distortion and add 0.25 V of hysteresis.
The SERVOSTAR J-06 includes an analog offset variable that can be applied to the input reading. An analog deadband adjustment is available, and the signal can be scaled through the position loop input scaling, velocity loop input scaling, or torque loop input scaling before being passed to the selected control loop. The analog input variable indicates the analog reading after offset and deadband adjustments but before loop scaling, with a range of ±22,500 counts or millivolts.

The SERVOSTAR J-06 offers an automatic analog input zeroing function. Invoking the ANZERO command while the drive is enabled or disabled samples motor velocity over a 32-millisecond period and updates the analog offset accordingly to cancel out analog input offset. This command also incorporates an internal offset mechanism with finer resolution than the standard offset variable.

The SERVOSTAR J-06 provides three configurable inputs operating at 12-24 VDC. These inputs can be defined using the appropriate variable values to support various features including CC/CW hardware position limits, electronic gearing, serial and analog position triggering for incremental moves and homing, fault output relay configuration, MotionLink scope triggering, and more. The inputs are opto-isolated and considered "active enable," meaning current must flow through these signals to allow system operation, providing a dead-man safety feature.
When configured for hardware position limits, the inputs prevent further motor travel in their respective direction but do not disable the drive or prevent motion in the opposite direction. If acceleration control is enabled, the motor will ramp to a stop after an End Travel Limit is opened. Energizing both CW and CCW hardware position limits causes the drive to enter HOLD mode. These inputs can also be inverted as needed.
The opto-isolated Remote Enable input provides a hardware drive enable switch. This 12-24 VDC input disables or enables the power stage output to the motor. The signal must be supplied to enable drive operation. Toggling this switch also initiates an attempt to recover from fault conditions and can trigger various position homing features.
The SERVOSTAR J-06 includes configurable outputs including an analog output and digital output options, allowing flexible integration with external monitoring and control systems.
The SERVOSTAR J-06 is suitable for a wide range of industrial motion control applications including packaging machinery, material handling systems, converting equipment, printing presses, textile machinery, and general factory automation where precise brushless servo control is required.
