The Saia PCD4.M110 is a CPU module within the PCD4 series programmable logic controller family, engineered for industrial automation applications requiring reliable control performance in demanding environments. This module serves as the central processing unit for PCD4 control systems, executing user programs, managing I/O operations, and coordinating communication between system components. The PCD4.M110 is designed for applications with moderate I/O counts where the processing capabilities of a full-featured CPU are required without the overhead of more complex systems.
At the core of the PCD4.M110 is a 32-bit industrial-grade CPU optimized for real-time control applications. The processor executes basic logic instructions in 2 microseconds or less, providing rapid scan cycle performance for time-critical control sequences. This processing speed is suitable for standard logic control applications including discrete manufacturing, material handling, and process monitoring tasks where scan times in the millisecond range meet application requirements. The deterministic execution model ensures consistent processing intervals, allowing users to design control strategies with predictable timing characteristics.
User memory capacity is provided at 512 kilobytes standard, with space allocated for both program storage and data tables used during execution. This memory size accommodates control programs of moderate length and complexity, including ladder logic sequences, function block diagrams, structured text routines, and data registers for process variables, setpoints, and intermediate calculation results. An optional 1 megabyte Flash memory expansion provides backup storage for user programs and configuration data, enabling rapid system recovery after memory loss events. A battery-backed real-time clock maintains accurate date and time information with a typical accuracy of plus or minus one minute per month, supporting time-based control operations and data logging with timestamps.
The PCD4.M110 incorporates significant on-board I/O functionality, reducing the need for expansion modules in smaller applications. Eight digital inputs accept 24 V DC signals with configurable PNP or NPN wiring conventions. Four digital outputs provide 24 V DC at 0.5 amperes per point for direct actuation of relay coils, indicator lamps, and other low-power loads. Four analog inputs accept industry-standard signal ranges of 0 to 20 milliamperes, with configurability for 4 to 20 milliampere or 0 to 10 volt signals. The analog inputs provide 12-bit resolution, producing 4096 discrete measurement steps across the selected range for detailed monitoring of analog process variables.
Communication interfaces include two configurable serial ports supporting RS-232 or RS-485 electrical standards, enabling connection to operator interfaces, variable frequency drives, and other serial devices using Modbus RTU protocol. Profibus DP slave capability allows the PCD4.M110 to function as a remote I/O node on larger control networks, communicating with a master PLC or distributed control system. Optional Ethernet module expansion adds TCP/IP communication capabilities, including support for Modbus TCP and general purpose data exchange on plant networks.

The modular architecture of the PCD4 system allows the CPU to be expanded with additional I/O modules for increased point counts or specialized functions. Central I/O configurations support up to 256 local points using PCD4 dedicated I/O modules. Remote I/O expansion via Profibus DP extends this capacity to 1024 points distributed across the network, suitable for larger systems where I/O devices are physically separated from the CPU location. Compatible expansion modules include digital input and output modules, analog input and output modules, temperature acquisition modules for PT100 resistance temperature detectors, and low-speed counter modules operating up to 50 kilohertz.
The PCD4.M110 is constructed with industrial-grade components designed to perform reliably across an operating temperature range spanning from minus 25 degrees Celsius to plus 70 degrees Celsius, accommodating use in unheated workshops or outdoor control cabinets. The module is compliant with electromagnetic compatibility standards, providing immunity to typical industrial electrical noise from motors, drives, switching power supplies, and other common interference sources. Vibration resistance meets IEC 61131-2 requirements for control equipment installed on machinery or in areas subject to mechanical agitation. The unit carries CE, UL, and CSA certifications for international acceptance, along with RoHS compliance for environmental regulations. IP20 protection rating indicates suitability for installation within closed control cabinets where the module is not exposed to direct contact with water or dust ingress.
