The 14X panel is designed for text-based operator interaction. The 4x20 display can show a mix of process values, status messages, and simple menus. The function keys can be configured to trigger specific actions such as starting a motor, acknowledging an alarm, or switching between screens. The panel supports password protection to prevent unauthorized changes to machine parameters.
The isolated RS-485 port allows the panel to be located up to 1200 meters from the controller, making it suitable for remote monitoring applications. The panel also features an internal watchdog timer that automatically resets the unit in case of a software hang.
The 14X fits a standard 92x92 mm cut-out, making it a direct replacement for many legacy text panels. Secure the unit using the four spring-loaded clips. Connect the power and communication lines to the screw terminal block on the rear; the terminals accept wires up to 1.5 mm². Use a shielded cable for RS-485; connect the shield to the ground terminal. After wiring, power up the unit; the display will show a startup message and then switch to the default screen.
Configuration is performed using the Lauer 14X Configurator software. This tool allows the definition of screen pages, assignment of key functions, and setting up of the communication driver. The application is downloaded via RS-232 using a direct cable. The software also includes an emulator to test the application without connecting to the hardware.
The 14X is built for long-term reliability with no moving parts. The keypad membrane is resistant to oil and solvents commonly found on shop floors. To clean, use a damp cloth with mild soap. The internal memory battery should be replaced every 3 years; the battery compartment is accessible from the rear.
This panel connects easily to PLCs from major manufacturers. The Modbus RTU driver allows reading and writing of holding registers and coils. The generic ASCII driver permits communication with custom-built controllers or serial devices that output character-based data.
The 14X panel is CE marked and complies with the Low Voltage Directive and EMC Directive. It is suitable for use in industrial environments with moderate vibration levels.
A user manual, programming guide, and quick installation sheet are provided. Lauer support engineers are available to assist with protocol configuration and application development.
The Systeme Lauer 14X Operator Panel is a no-nonsense, durable HMI solution for basic to intermediate control tasks. Its simple user interface, robust construction, and wide compatibility ensure reliable operation in demanding industrial settings.
